Simply the opinion of a group of film critics, nothing more. Taste in films (and many things) is purely subjective. That said, they are both fine classic films in my opinion.

Hey, I got your Rosebud right here!! Directors Hitchcock, Welles, Fellini, Ford etc all had movies on the list. The Pappymeister's "The Searchers" made the top 10 list. I do not think John Ford was even nominated for a best director Oscar for the 1956 masterpiece. Well, at least he received the first AFI Lifetime Acievement award. It is always a popcorn fight over artistic "cinema" versus mainstream "movies". It's not as bad as being nominated for "best short subject" in a porno flick!
