Well guys, I was laid off my job in the middle of June and have been looking for work since. If any of you have unemployed before have you ever noticed how people treat you differently than when you were employed. Anyway, any of your thoughts would be appreciated and thanks in advance for any replys. :sigh:

Man ive been unemployed MY WHOLE LIFE AND IM 33!!! People treat you like shit so youre damn right. Thats what the writers used to call The Manson Family, they called them the Garbage People. Were people that nobody wants you see. They want to put us on the road and leave us be while they go make babies and buy houses while were left saying "What about me?" Nothing I can do about it or you neither but tell all them 6 figure, yuppie swine...FUCK YOU!!!

My best advise is to try a temp agency. My husband used to get work through a temp place and it's not a bad deal.

Ness is right. My first few jobs of employement were through a temp/management agency. While they do tack a small bit off of your paycheck for themselves (thats how they stay in business) they do help you find the job and job placement. You usually are just required to fill out a survey of what kind of work you can and cannot do and they'll get back to you when they have work for you in whatever companies or businesses they are affiliated with.

I'd consider using such an agency if I were you, to get yourself off the ground again. Once you're well established and adjusted to a company, you can cease working through the agency and there will be no reduction of wage and you'll no longer be a temp in the company/place of establishment, but rather a full-fledged employee.

I dont think that's how it works, Vlad. At least that's not how the one he used worked. What they did was charge the company (Novartis in his case) a much higher amount per hour than what he was getting paid. It's sort of a fee they charge the company in exchange for keeping them stocked with employees that they dont have to look for. As an employee you're not charged anything.

Yeah, thats what I meant. Didn't word it right and mixed up the order. Its been a long time since I used an agency anyway.

Get yer resume out there and hope

My mums been laid off for several months now, and she's gettin dicked around with her unemployment checks

Depending on where you live the job market can be TOUGH. My husband was out of work for almost a year (fortunately we qualified for the maximum unemploiyment benefit which isnt much but it payed the bills). Unless you can get by on a $12/hour job it can be nearly impossible to get any sort of corporate position. What he ended up doing is going into car sales. There's money there but it's not for everyone.

Give it hell, Hoss!

Don't despair...and don't be too proud to take a job that might be considered beneath you. There is nothing shameful about honest work. Three years ago, a malign Fate put me out of my twenty-year profession as a broadcaster. (Could have stayed in radio if I had been willing to relocate, but for personal and family reasons I wasn't.) So, at the venerable age of 47, I set my jaw and took a job as an overnight stocker at the local Wal-Mart. I am still there and in line for promotion, largely because I show up when I'm supposed to and I actually work when I'm there. (You'd be astonished how rare those qualities are in this day and age. Employers will practically fall down and embrace your knees when they find they can depend on you.)

I worked for a month part time at the st louis carquest for 10.30 an hour, and i dont recommend it to anyone

Thank all you people for your encouraging words and yes I try to remain positive and hopefully I get a job soon. And yes Ness, I have tried agencys both temp and permanent but nothing has happened yet. I applied for a job for a company that I used to work for so hopefully they will get back to me next week. Again thank you for your replys.

I'm 23, I don't have a job, and I live in my parents basement. I went to college and have had a couple of decent jobs but have since quit them to do nothing. I've realized I do not enjoy working and have no motivation or ambition to do anything with myself. Seems I may be in a bit of trouble.

I went to university and got a degree in Maths (a 2:2), and was promptly told by pretty much every employer that:

a) My degree wasn't good enough to get a graduate position, or that
b) Because I had a degree I wasn't eligible for school-leaver positions. Sucks to get a low grade in your degree...

Now, I work in a betting shop. When I started, as just a cashier, I was getting (conversion into US$) ~$10.50/hour (working about 40-50 hours per week). They're not too picky about who they take on, as they're always so short on staff (it is, after all, a fairly tedious job. And you get all sorts of people in betting shops).
Now, I work as an asst. manager about 55-65 hours a week at ~$13.20/hour and ~$23/hour on Sundays. 😀 The hours still suck giant donkey dick though... 🙁
