I went to university and got a degree in Maths (a 2:2), and was promptly told by pretty much every employer that:
a) My degree wasn't good enough to get a graduate position, or that
b) Because I had a degree I wasn't eligible for school-leaver positions. Sucks to get a low grade in your degree...
Now, I work in a betting shop. When I started, as just a cashier, I was getting (conversion into US$) ~$10.50/hour (working about 40-50 hours per week). They're not too picky about who they take on, as they're always so short on staff (it is, after all, a fairly tedious job. And you get all sorts of people in betting shops).
Now, I work as an asst. manager about 55-65 hours a week at ~$13.20/hour and ~$23/hour on Sundays. 😀 The hours still suck giant donkey dick though... 🙁
