Aren't all of these products basically anti-fungal topical creams with low-level steroids? What's the deal? Can't we have one topical cream that works on all three? If I get a case of atheletes foot and all I can find around the house is Vagisil, will that mean I'll have to start shopping for shoes in woman's sizes?

We are slaves to Madison Avenue marketing schemes.

Ummm...I don't have it here at work, but I'm pretty sure Vagisil's active ingredient is an analgesic, not an anti-fungal. In other words, it'll mask your athlete's foot symptoms for a little while, but won't actually treat it.

And of course it might make you feel very pretty. 🙂

How would they work on a case of athlete's tongue from nibbling toes with such an affliction?

While we're talking about multiple tasks for medications, how about orajel and anusol?

Sorry, I had to ask......:firedevil

hmmm.....look at the bright side, Drew. Your home run production should go up with the steroid use.😎

no, no NO!

Um, drew...is there something you're trying to tell us here??😀

Cruex and Tinactin are anti-fungal as TG points out but Cruex is designed specifically for jock itch only (there IS more than one type of FUNGI, yanno!)

And if you actually HAD a V-jay jay, you'd know to NEVER put something on her that wasn't designed specifically for the area. (The pH balance is EXTREMELY delicate there and inappropriate medication cas cause you a lot bigger problems.) It's a bad idea in general to cross-use your meds but that's the LAST place you want to chance it. For chicks anyhoo. Silly rabbit.
XOXO

Thank you, Steph! :lovestory

LOL, I never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed, especially when it comes to medicine, and even less when it comes to feminine hygiene.

This question came up last night, while I was talking to a buddy of mine on the phone. While recently visiting his elderly mother he discovered he had a mild case of athlete's foot. So he asked his Mom if she had any Desinex or (tough actin') Tinactin in the house. She said, "No, but why don't you try some of this?" and handed him a tube of Vagisil.

Cringing inwardly, he simply replied, "Uh...That's okay, Mom. I need to hit the pharmacy anyway."

The pharmacist told him that they were all basically fungacides with low level steroids and that it was all about the marketing.

Lesson learned: Pay attention to that first syllable! 😀

You know the Dr. is always here for you Drew. 😉
You are most welcome. I oversimplified my answer a bit of course. (No one but a scientist wants to hear the long boring biological explanation and I don't have time to give it here.)

BTW, speaking of the Dr., I'm a little worried about this "pharmacist" honey. (Your friend should ask him if he's a Dr. the way Dr. Pepper is a doctor.) :jester:
XOXO

Which first syllable is that? In this case, I think the "Far" in pharmacist is a good one to pay attention to. Stay "far" away from that one! 🙂

Haha. Good one, TG.

You know, this whole medical marketing thing reminds me of when somebody supposedly came out with an "orgasm" pill for women several years ago. A local DJ here in the DC area was speculating on what the marketing guys might name the product. Gladvil? Sexcedrin? Melabonin? Smylenol? :blaugh:

I knew a guy who used Vagisil instead of Tinactin. He gets easily irritated once a month.

Store-bought medication blows.

There is only one cure for any ailment that you have newly discovered...Whiskey.

Sure, it dosen't make the problem go away but it sure as hell makes you not give a flying plick until the next day!:couch:

ah, the old wives school of medicine...

Love it! I think a lot of people would be shocked at how right on some of that advice was~bit of alcohol on an open wound acually DOES kill germs. And our family pediatrician always advocated a few drops of Canadian whiskey in our bottles when we became unbearable as babies. Though no self respecting ped would recommend such now, my folks swore it worked like a charm and to this day I cannot even stand the smell of whiskey :xlime: (so much for the theory that you're creating addicts.) Morons.
XOXO
