Vermont Catamounts Upset #4 Syracuse! Woo-Hoo!

Anyone catch this barnburner of a college game? Nobody gave our Cats a shot, but they took the Orange into overtime for a 60-57 victory! Ok, now bring on Michigan or Old Dominion (ok....bring on Michigan 🙄 )

All you guys playing brackets, let's not overlook some of the little guys this year. Vermont isn't even on the radar, but Taylor Coppenrath is the second-leading scorer in the nation.

First the Red Sox, then the Patriots...next the Catamounts?

Highly unlikely, but it was a great game nonetheless. 😎

I tend to cheer for UConn against anyone but Syracuse. But, when I saw the story about Vermont and their coach and players, I decided that I'd pull for them against Syracuse. I'm not that much of a b-ball person. But, I still care who wins. I'd love to see Vermont and UConn. And I think I might have to cheer for Vermont again. It's just too great a situation.

The thing with Vermont is that they're a highly engaging and likeable team. They have more talent than anyone gives them credit for, with Coppenrath, Sorrentine and that really good African guy whose name I can never spell correctly. Did you see the three-pointer Sorrentine hit from five feet beyond the line? That was like three 3-pointers in two minutes.

Coach Tom Brennan is a hell of a guy. Besides being the coach, he's also part of the morning team from a highly popular local classic-rock station...with a habit of giving opposing coaches "wake-up calls" at 6 am on live radio. Which led the Syracuse coach to say "I hope Brennan doesn't have my number" when he found out they were playing Vermont.

You gotta remember, Syracuse is a team that plays in front of 30,000 people in a dome, often on national television...UVM's gym holds about 3,200.

This is huge for this area, I'll tell you. With no pro sports teams in Vermont, the Catamounts are about all we got. Well, that and Plattsburgh State Hockey. You really couldn't ask for a better cinderella team. And who knows? Michigan state is tough, but Old Dominion almost took them out. The scary thing is that if the Cats pull out another one and get by Michigan, the likely opponent in the Sweet Sixteen will be #1 Duke. There's where the ride probably ends. But until someone stops them...

Every year its the same a couple of big guns get knocked out early.

You know it's going to happen you just don't know to whom.

I'm glad I didn't play this year.... I had ScarySue (Syracuse) going to the show.....Kansas always seems to fall......I know better than to pick them.

ps - I like Illinois and hate Duke.....they're like the Yankees and decades ago the Cowboys. Some teams just alwatys stay on the evil list.

Ummm Dave, thats MICHIGAN STATE NOT Michigan. There is a huge difference as the Wolverines are not even in the tourney but our Spartans are. GO GREEN GO WHITE. By the way, my high school alma mater won their class championship game yesterday also. First time ever!!! Go Rams!

Dave, my condolences for your loss. Unfortunately I have a feeling our turn is next when we play Duke. Venray, the Spartan ladies are rolling alone nicely also. How fun would that be to bring home a title in both the mens and womens. But truly I am not greedy! lol. I actually think the women stand a better chance. Living 15 mins from campus there is alot of excitement going on either way.

It was nice run while it lasted. Coppenrath going into a shooting slump didn't help, but Michigan was simply the better team that night. Funny, but people up here are still pumped about the Syracuse win. Coach Brennan was back on his radio show again this morning, and most of the calls were congratulatory in nature. It was an amazing season for our small school.
