Vexing Life of the Foot and Shoe

This one’s for the feet people, particularly women: I think we all know the cliché of women being obsessed with shoes—acquiring them, wearing them, etc.---and all the stand-up jokes about women loving to go shoe shopping and owning dozens of pairs of shoes, “Sex and the City’ culture, Imelda Marcos, etc. So, my question is why would women then be so shocked at the idea of people being foot fetishists? (I already understand the fetishism/partialism difference. This is simply about why women seem to separate feet from shoes.)
