I have the general impression that this article of clothing isn't necessarily intended for practical purposes, and probably not expected to be worn for very long.

I suppose it comes down to "whatever feels good." I actually know women who love wearing thongs, 5 inch stilettos, cinched waist corsets with underwire push-up bras, and shelf bras under itchy angora sweaters. Extreme sexy over comfort. And I say, God Bless Them!
