As some of you may know, there has been a terrible event at virginia tech college. 22 have been confirmed dead already and many wounded. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and students at Virgina tech

I too send my heart out to those lost who are now hopeful in the Lord's embrace and at peace. I just hope no one blames videogames this time.

I was talking to my friends earier about this and one of them said, "Ya know, I have one question for the guy, why so early? why not sleep in and do it night, that's what I would have done." All I could do was shake my head.

I'm just in shock...

What's wrong with people? Why kill? What happened to talking things out?

And what the hell is wrong with Virginia Tech not closing the school down as soon as students were shot on that campus earlier in the morning????

If there had been no classes from the earlier shooting, 31 lives would have been saved...

My heart is with the families and friends who lost loved ones today...🙁

This is a very sad event, and it's even sadder that people feel the need to kill others to deal with whatever pain is eating them up inside.

I do think that we should show some compassion to the authorities involved in this event though. Closing the school may haved saved lives, but then again the assailant may just have gone elsewhere for victims. Whatever the case, the people involved have to live with their decisions in this matter, not always an easy road to walk.

Truly sad though ...

Everyone is right. It is very sad. But what's really bad is how it was handled. In trying to not start a panic, the police and administration tried to keep it quiet, but look where it got dozens of others, and possibly themselves. I'm certain that heads will roll and people will be fired for this. Also, something like this affects us all. There will undoubtedly be more legislation that will inconvenience us and take rights away. Some will blame slack gun laws and others will blame the media. Either way, more legislation is on the way. And the new laws will stop nothing. What's my point? I really don't know if I have one. Just a rant on an example of how miserable of a world this is sometimes.

This is a terrible, heart wrencking event. The part that saddens me the most, is that i am not suprised. So little money spend on security on schools and such. Think about it. How does one person lock down so much without being stopped? I mean this in an angry way for the deaths of innocents, i send my heart and all the lvoe i have out for them. God watch over them in his loving arms. I will gladly pray with anyone here who wants a parter, so please, let me know. God bless, and watch over you all, and all whom have suffered from this event.
-Joe, with all my love.

This is the sad thing of our era, everything must be solved with violence, no matter how trivial the offense. The mindset of the majority is disgusting in that nothing can be solved with words.

My heart goes out to the families of the fallen, this tragedy was cruel and unnecessary.

Good grief. What a day---first my best friend (17) gets pregnant, then this. My heart goes out to all the families...the fact that the SOB is already dead is cold comfort. Dr Phil, though I may disagree with him on most points, said something I agree with--what the community of these families need to do is close ranks and show support and love. Which is why I ask, has anyone here been affected by these tragedies? Please don't be afraid to use this as a forum to discuss, cry, bitch, whatever. We're here for you 🙂

I heard from it in the tv news and I'm speechless 🙁 Why does anyone do things like that? This guy came to university and killed 33 innocent people, simply inconceivable and shocking 🙁 I'll pray for the victims and their families, may god bless them all.

Because now everyone will pontificate as though they know the mindset of the perpetrator, the circumstances surrounding the event, the pain of losing a loved one in such an event, etc. They will run around like chickens without heads, the media will open itself up to so-called "authorities" on the so-called "criminal mind," and in the end, a video game or movie or faulty gun control law or musical performer will be blamed for this and we will, once again, learn absolutely nothing about the society in which we live except the same old meme, "it's screwed up, what can you do?"

Again: I lol'd. It may be a cold response, but it's the most honest one I can give. I felt the same way about the Columbine incident. We learned nothing from that little fiasco, either, especially not any sort of social reform within the school system.

seconded.

on a side note, have they even identified who did it yet? last i heard they hadn't yet because he shot himself in the face.

Yes. He was a student named Cho Seung-Hui, a senior at VTec. English major. South Korean. Moved to the US with his parents in 1992 (when he was 8 years of age). Had mentioned several times that he was sick of being ridiculed and hated the "rich kids." He had apparently written some "disturbing" stories in his creative writing classes and was told to "seek counseling" (it is as yet unknown if he did such). Known to stalk some of the female students and occasionally started fires on campus. These incidents were never reported to police.

They identified him via fingerprints obtained during immigration.

EDIT: Reports also indicate that there was a note found next to his body saying something like, "this is all your fault" or "you brought this upon yourselves" or something like that.

It is a sad day in America. When will the needless violence come to an end. To the families and friends of those lost may peace be upon you in dealing with this tragady.

It wont. Thats the saddest part of it all. This all happens every day, and it wont stop. Ever. a terrible truth that hurts to think about, but it is no less a truth. I am doing what i can to stop senseless violence, but there will always be an organised shit-head planning an attack for literally no reason. I still offer what i can to anyone whom is saddened as deeply by this event as i. You have but to tell me, and i'll talk with you. With love.

Too late, Jack Thompson is already on the case.

Also, I fully agree with Midnight Circus on this, both for the reasons he mentioned, and the fact that being able to laugh at tragedy is one of the best ways for society as a whole to come to terms with it. I lol'd.

The fact that you both laughed at the tragedy the day of and the day following is the strongest indicator that this sort of thing will indeed happen again.

I agree that with time, laughter can help heal the wounds of loss, but your laughter is, as you said yourselves, that of cold, souless beings already lost to the joys of the world.

This is a horrid tragedy. My prayers are with the friends, families, faculties and staff that have suffered a terrible and needless loss.

Everyone always wants to blame someone else for the problem. It's time to put the blame where it REALLY belongs:
(1) THE PERSON WHO DID IT! and
(2) the society and culture that breeds and creates this self-justified behavior

No, the strongest indicator should be the fact that we as a society didn't learn a damn thing from the ten or so other school shootings that have happened in the past. My response to the tragedy (or, if you would have read my post, you have seen that it's rather a response to the media aftermath and not the actual loss of life) has no bearing on how we as a nation will come to grips with this event and try to prevent such an occurence from happening again. As I said in my other post, social reform within the school system (apparently, now, on all levels) seems to be the one thing that everyone's afraid to try--and, indeed, is probably the one thing that will stop these shootings. That's my hypothesis, at least.

Again, please actually read the post in which I explain my lol'ing. It wasn't at the loss of life, but rather at the media exploitation and the futility that will follow the tragedy for months to come. To (near)quote Super Columbine Massacre RPG: "Humans are always talking, but they never say much of anything."

this is a mjor tradegy. not even the hollywood brother can think of a reason for this behavior. What bothers the hollywood brother is that this is getting to a point that it is not shocking everyone anymore. this is a terrible thing. the hollywood brother feels that much more than thirty lives were lost. what about all the people who are in mourning now do to the deaths. How about the parents and loved one of the victims. There lives will never ever be the same. The hollywood brother heart goes out to the people who have to go on with life after losing someone in any terrible evil event

Enough guys! Put aside any differences, and let this be dedicated to the loss of such good people! Seriously, i understand what you meant by lol'd man, but not on this post, please. I want this to be for them. Sorry if i exploded at all.
-Joe
