Story here. The classic King novel was previously made into a TV miniseries in 1990.

Let's hope they can do King justice in adapting a book that is - despite being hundreds of pages too long and containing tons of unnecessary silliness - a work of genius in the scope of its conception.

I hope they do a better job this time around. Don't get me wrong, the made for TV version has its charm and it def made me sh*t my pants when I was 10 years old. but the acting is really corny for the most part and A LOT was left out from the book. I wonder how WB plans on doing a decent job in a 2hr film if a 4+ hour TV series couldn't do it in the first place.

If they manage to follow the book closely and manage to emulate the feeling of sheer creepy the story has, it will be good.

and then, after that there'll be a remake of Psycho, then they'll "re envision" The Goonies, and then they'll take Ben Hur and flush it down the toilet by making it a comedy...

seriously...is Hollywood just out of original ideas?

They did remake psycho years ago and i believe goonies is in the process, with a cgi ma fratelli

It would be interesting if they modernize IT and make it more graphic(ie the underage sex orgy)

I actually think it's a good thing. I'd like to see a more updated version of IT. We'll see if they actually make it good or not.:bounce:

Yes.

Hollywood is controlled by bankers. They do not like taking chances with original ideas, even though it's proven all the time. There are scripts out there that are great, but they want everything turned cookie cutter instead of worthwhile. That is just a writer's perspective, though.

I hope they dont mess wit this guy....:panic:

I used to date a girl that was TERRIFIED of clowns because of this thing. It was so bad that when I do my clown laugh impression (which is pretty damn good if you ask me), she would break down in tears. I thought it was fun, but she hated when I did it, lol.

You do realise that you have just described every Stephen King novel ever written, ever.

SHHHH!!!!!!!!

I have been waiting twenty years for somebody to regurgitate Howard The Duck.

Until then, HUSH, YOU!:jester:

Good! That early-90's miniseries was a total abomination  Even the great Tim Curry couldn't save it.

I just hope they go into more detail of the relationship between Henry Bowers and his father and make Patrick Hockstetter a character (spoiler for the book!!!!!!!!) infanticide committed by a 5 year old is creepy.

The original scared me when I was younger. I hope that the new one is scary too. I always look forward to remakes, but a lot are not as good as the original, and then I leave the theatre annoyed. So far, I have waited to see a lot of the remakes, although I really want to see the remake of "Last House on the Left". I do wish that Hollywood would seek out some new ideas. And after looking at this thread, I hate clowns too. I have really wanted to read the book, has anyone read it?

Ah yes, Patrick Hockstetter: the kid who keeps dead animals in a fridge in the woods and is convinced that no one else exists and that he is the only real person on earth. Personally I feel he's somewhat of a side character...

Yes, I have (if you haven't guessed, LOL). What you may have to be warned about is that this is a BIG book. We're talking over A THOUSAND pages of tiny print, with a lot of repetition and silliness in those pages. King effectively takes you back to being a child again, but takes far too long to do it, and adds some really stupid side-plots that caused me to throw the book down in frustration numerous times and vow not to pick it up again.

On the other hand, it is a brilliantly conceived story with some fantastically three-dimensional character, and one of the all-time great horror monsters. Despite my initial frustration, I ultimately found it really rewarding once I eventually finished it. How much you enjoy it probably depends on how long or short your attention span is and how easy you find it to connect with the characters.
