I love Austin, really I do. But, there are some things about it that drive me crazy. The Frank Erwin Center, on the University of Texas campus is a venue used primarily for sporting events and concerts by national or international bands. Just north of there is a large building used for among other things freshman orientation. The powers that be at UT apparently thought it would be a good idea to schedule a Davis Cup match and said orientation not only on the same day, but at the same time.
Due to the large amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic resulting, that portion of Red River Dr. has been hopelessly snarled from about noon on, and will be long after these events are concluded. Much like our esteemed city government, there seems to be no coordination or communication between various entities on scheduling things there, or just south in downtown.
