I recently saw this movie and I have to say I was very pleased. Some of the movie reviews said it was Reese Witherspoon's greatest performance since "Walk the Line" which I felt was going to be hard to compare since she was phenomenal in that film. I was also pleased to see anything with Rob Pattinson in it as well :bubbleheart:

I won't give any spoilers away. But the film captured the era of the Great Depression/ Early 1930s/ Prohibition era beautifully. The old fashioned circus, animals, and circus acts were breathtaking.

I fully recommend seeing this film. It is definitely not a chick flick. It is a good movie that anyone could enjoy!

What are your thoughts?

I had to watch the previews for this a couple of times on TV before I decided I wanted to give it a go. -- I've still been apprehensive, but if it's getting good reviews then I'll definitely check it out.

I'll have to go see it. I love movies and stories about this time period.

Plus, I love Reese Witherspoon. She's hhhoooooootttt! And, a great actress.

You really should see it! It is wonderful! I am usually a bit skeptical about "early" summer movies...but this one was the shit! :upsidedow

Reese Witherspoon is adorable in this movie! And so beautiful in her 30's type of fashion 😀

I would like to see it just so I can drool over Robert Pattinson NOT looking like a vampire with bad hair.

Even though I will be drooling over him as a vampire with [not so] bad hair in Breaking Dawn in November.

The theater will install a drool drainage system before your arrival. 😛

Just kidding...

I read the book several years ago and I loved the book. I'm anxious to see the movie so thank you for the movie review.

Warning: There are clowns in this circus movie!!!!!!

I enjoyed the movie. The cruelty scenes were evil, but of course it ends someway/somehow, just before the credits roll!!! Trains, clowns and sadism!!! Yum!!

As long as they don't turn into a giant bug; like Tim Curry in IT...

Wait, that bug was awesome...

In reference to a brief comment made by Hal Holbrook's character in the beginning ("The Hagenbeck-Wallace train, before the accident,"): there was an excellent article in the Chicago Tribune about the crash. As I live near the cemetery, gotta take a trip over. And no, there are no elephants buried there.

Saw it last weekend and loved it. It's a really good book too.

I heard they abused the Elephants while making that film.

Might want to read a few of the articles...more than one indicates the abuse took place 5 years before the filming (2005), not while making it...and if it proves accurate, I hope they treat the trainers the same way (use electric shocks on them).

Well Bob Barker was on the Dean Blundell Show up here in Toronto, and he claimed abuse happened during the making of the film. I'm not the biggest Dean Blundell fan, but I would consider Mr. Barker to be pretty reliable.

That would make the American Humane Association's movie disclaimer seem pretty lame.
