Because people are stupid and easily entertained so networks take advantage of that . Oh and Coast to Coast AM too .

The sad thing is that a lot of these folks have sold off their homes, quit jobs and such because "Hey, who needs that shit when the world ends in a week?" There was a local news story about how a family blew their savings, their kids college funds, and are waiting to be 'taken up' now. I have no issues with these folks ruining their own lives with this stuff, but putting your kids in a horrid position for their futures annoys.

Mark me, the day after it doesn't happen they will find a math error, or a missing hidden code that says its going to end in 2018 or such. And they will reboot and start again.

They originally said it was in '94...but if I recall they may have had another little gurgle about it in '98, or that may have been another group. In any case...

This is exactly what I mean when I argue against people who say "Well, you may hate religion, but it doesn't hurt anyone!"

Yeah, it does. When you can play on the fears and misguided beliefs of people to your own ends, people get hurt. Like in the above, people selling off their homes and putting their kids at risk. When the Pope goes to Africa, the most AIDS-stricken place on earth, and implores people to stop using condoms, people get hurt. When C Street and "The Family" use a roundabout way to introduce and support "Kill the Gays" legislation in the already horrific dictatorship of Uganda...people die. When an inbred psycho in Florida actually manages to get news coverage of a Koran-burning, people died as a result.

Yes, people are responsible for their own actions. But when organized religions (or even their fringe counterparts) incite these actions for attention, prestige and/or profit, they are every single BIT as responsible for the blood and ruined lives on their hands.
 
I don't believe it one bit. May 21st will just be another fun filled day (maybe a rainy and humid day at that.) Now 2012 is a totally different story!

But if you're a believer and you know the second coming of Christ will happen, don't
be deceived by those who say they know the hour. Those are your false prophets.
 
We're not going anywhere any time soon, not may 21, not 2012, if pwople would actually think of logic, maby these things wouldn't bother people so much. we have a good 1,000 years left anyway, listen to nastradamus. (I know i butchered his name)

Also don't listen to the history channel, they added their own Nastradamus prediction for next year.

If Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and the other Wall Street inside traders do not know about it, I guess we are safe........except from Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, etc. Many years ago, one of my distant family members believed a "preacher" that said the world would end and did not plant a crop that spring. In the "post apocalyptic" winter that followed, he had to rely on the charity of others to feed his family.
