Weed is now officially legal in my state!

You can't make an argument against the legalization of weed without making an argument against alcohol, or any other legal mind-altering substance. Hell, you may as well start proposing to outlaw certain cold medicines.

Furthermore, keeping it illegal doesn't impact a surgeon's ability to waltz into work stoned. The implications of going to work stoned off of a legal or illegal drug are basically the same, as the massive lawsuit he'll be facing will make any discrepancy between the two practically negligible.

I haven't posted here in years, and came on here and saw this thread. I can't understand the hate for Weed that some people have. My life was a total wreck, I was depressed all the time, hated so many people, and so many things, didn't have much of a social life, and just generally didn't enjoy life in the least. That was while sober.

After a friend got me smoking pot, I could actually sleep again, I wanted to get out and do stuff, I made new friends and started hanging out with old friends again that I hadn't seen in years, really. My outlook on life started to change for the better. I might be a bit lazy here and there, but I'm still generally more active now than I was, I have a better job than I've ever had before, etc., etc., just generally a happier person now.

This isn't gonna be the case for everyone, but in my experience, weed has been only helpful in just about every aspect of my life.

So I'm glad it's being legalized to a degree in some areas and I hope the rest of the world catches on.

EDIT: Also, to the person talking about how weed wrecks your body: please do some research before you spout off nonsense. Also is it not hypocritical to say that it WRECKS your body, yet you're all for MEDICAL use? If it's being used to help someone medically, then it's NOT WRECKING THEIR BODY.

Here's just one of many articles to read from a quick Google search: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/laurel-dewey/marijuana-is-not-addictive_b_1739339.html

Ok, I'm heading back to Non-Posting Land.

I have to disagree with the thought that legalizing marijuana will lead to an increase in usage. I think the reverse is more likely. Once legal, marijuana will lose its counterculture mystique; forbidden fruit, and all that.

I think you'll see that effect most obviously with the younger generations.

Kids like to rebel, generally speaking. That particular urge never really hit me, but I know it's a popular thing amongst the 'cool' kids.

When smoking weed is no longer taboo, I think you're likely to see a massive drop-off in underage smoking of it. Possibly even record-breaking lows.
