Some very interesting games this week. Watch the spreads everyone. Some of them are head shakers. Be careful with your picks. Just because the spread is 9 1/2 doesn't mean the favored team will win by 10. So watch your picks carefully. So now here is the games for week #3 in the league where they play...for pay

Kevin's picks

I have been out of touch since my GIANTS won the superbowl & I resumed my chess career (on the side, not as my main thing, of course). I can't talk too long, but I will say what I can.

Note that all home teams except Green Bay are favored. Just so you know, it should have been a clean sweep, as I think Green Bay should be favored too just for laughs.

Kansas City Chiefs +6 @ Atlanta Falcons 1:00pm

Kansas City is absolutely dreadful. They lost to the Raiders despite a 6/17 showing from JaMarcus Russell! Also, Third starting QB in three weeks (Tyler Thigpen). This will be painful to watch.

Oakland Raiders +9 1/2 @ Buffalo Bills 1:00pm

Here's the difference: Buffalo has a quarterback. This means that you apply the Anti-Minnesota running strategy here: Stack the box & dare Russell to win. Give the points since this is an east coast trip.

Houston Texans +5 @ Tennessee Titans 1:00pm

Both defenses are good, but I like the Tennessee running game & Kerry Collins better. Give the points, but I do hope everyone in Houston is okay.

Cincinnati Bengals +13 1/2 @ New York Giants 1:00pm

This line scares me. But I'll look at it objectively. The Bungles are back. Carson Palmer has three interceptions, & 0 touchdowns. The Giants defense lost Umenyiora, Mitchell, & Strahan. Yet they have given up a grand total of 20 points while scoring 7 themselves. This should get ugly pretty quickly. Maybe the company picnic took the right week to postpone to a Sunday.

Arizona Cardinals +3 @ Washington Redskins 1:00pm

Why is Kurt Warner, a two-time MVP & a Superbowl champion, an underdog to a quarterback on his 7th offensive system in 7 or 8 years? Oh, it's because they are on the road? I know that this might not be the Cardinals year, but Washington won't be the one to derail them. Since I'm taking the Cardinals, I'll take their 3-point gift as well.

Miami Dolphins +12 1/2 @ New England Patriots 1:00pm

This is your second trap spread of the week. The only reason this is a trap spread is because a certain quarterback, um, isn't playing. Unfortunately, Joey Porter opened his mouth. I think that extra motivation makes this particular NFL dark team side of the force more likely to win. But if you think I'm picking a Matt Cassel team to give 12.5 points, you're insane. (Bonus note: I only bold teams I think will straight out upset, not teams that will lose but cover. I'll try to be consistent with it.)

Tampa Bay Bucanneers +3 @ Chicago Bears 1:00pm

Brian Griese is a washout, & 'da Bears finally found 'a running back. Tampa Bay has too many quarterbacks & not enough receivers. I like 'da Bears.

Carolina Panthers +3 1/2 @ Minnesota Vikings 1:00pm

I own both these fantasy defenses. I figured that Minnesota's defense will struggle until their quarterback actually proves capable of making plays to keep them off the field. However, the injury to Adrian Peterson changes matters. Regardless of quarterback, I'll go with the cardiac comeback kids to steal this in the final minutes.

P.S. I am starting Carolina's defense this Sunday.

P.S. # 2. You hold Peyton Manning & company scoreless through most of three quarters, yet you only put up 15 points on the board. You deserve the crowd's booing & you deserve to lose.

St. Louis Rams +9 1/2 @ Seattle Seahawks 4:05pm

I would love to say the Seahawks don't deserve to be 9.5 point favorites as an 0-2 team who gave up 33 points last week. I would love to say that the Seahawks winning streak against St. Louis will end, simply because I can't stand the Rams. However, the worst team in football (79 points allowed, 16 points scored) leaves me no choice.

Detroit Lions +4 @ San Francisco 49ers 4:05pm

Fantasy alert: David Garrard & Maurice Jones-Drew have been huge busts thanks to suddenly injured offensive line. I am starting J.T. O'Sullivan this week! You might say that a quarterback in his second start in a long time will struggle because the opponent will have a game plan ready to execute. When that opponent is the Lions...

New Orleans Saints +5 1/2 @ Denver Broncos 4:05pm

New Orleans' defense continues to underimpress. How do you let Jason Campbell, someone struggling to play a two-minute offense in a new west coast offense, put up 29 points? Now you're going from a bad offense to a great offense. Cutler looks like the best of that particular rookie class from I think 2006. (You know, Vince Young, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Mario Williams)

Pittsburgh Steelers +3 1/2 @ Philadelphia Eagles 4:15pm

Boy, the Eagles showed they have offense, even if DeSean Jackson made a bonehead play that had McNabb owners screaming, Dallas defensive owners screaming (Why didn't they pounce on the loose ball, may I ask? Pounce first, ask later!), & Westbrook owners giddy for a bonus touchdown. However, I think the Steelers offense is a little bit better & the Eagles will come down to earth.

Jacksonville Jaguars
+5 1/2 @ Indianapolis Colts 4:15pm

The other Manning brother (I made a joke linking The Manning Bros. vs. Bill Belichick to the Mario Bros. vs. Bowser earlier this year after the Giants superbowl win.) showed some real moxie, leading a comeback despite playing behind no protection & no running game. I predicted the Colts would struggle this year, but I was off on who the injury would be on (I thought Manning, but it's his offensive line.) Since both offensive lines are terrible, the one who is more physical should win this game, with one difference: David Garrard can complete more than two passes in a half, Mr. Tarvaris Jackson.

Cleveland Browns +2 @ Baltimore Ravens 4:15pm

Why is my AFC North preaseason division winner struggling? It must be pumpkin season. (Booo...hiss...) Okay okay, no more pumpkin references here. I think Baltimore is going to win, but since I don't think it will be by only one point...

Dallas Cowboys -3 @ Green Bay Packers 8:15pm

Who the heck are they kidding? Why is Dallas, the biggest bunch of egotistical paper talent ever collected, favored against a real Aaron Rodgers & a team that was closer to the Superbowl than them? They couldn't contain McNabb, & Rodgers is younger with a lot less mileage. Green Bay's running is a bit more physical, & I expect to see gassed Dallas lines by the end.

New York Jets +9 @ San Diego Chargers 8:35pm

This is your third trap spread of the week. Why is an 0-2 team that gave up 26 & 39 points favored by 9 points over the 1-1 Jersey/B team? I couldn't take these points fast enough! Did I say Dallas was the biggest bunch of egotistical paper talent collected? Well, San Diego is the second biggest bunch, & the only difference is that Phillip Rivers isn't dating Jessica Simpson. (By the way Tony, thank you for releasing Carrie Underwood) The Chargers are finally getting their due karma for firing Marty Schottenheimer. I smell massive bust here, as the Jets will look to open the offense with that Wrangler jeans guy under center. New England started all day in Jets territory, yet they managed only 19 points. Must be a good Jets defense.

Kansas City Chiefs +6 @ Atlanta Falcons 1:00pm --- The Chiefs are awful. I am thinking that Herm Edwards is coaching his final year in KC.

Oakland Raiders +9 1/2 @ Buffalo Bills 1:00pm --- Oakland is a team that does not travel well to the East Coast. I am guessing that a 10:00am PDT for them will not help matters either. Like the Bills in this one.

Houston Texans +5 @ Tennessee Titans 1:00pm --- Houston is another team that does not travel well though it is only to Tennessee. I am confident that the Titans can beat the Texans in this game by more than 5.

Cincinnati Bengals +13 1/2 @ New York Giants 1:00pm --- Marvin Lewis can gaureentee that the sun will rise and that it will set. But to gaureentee that they can beat the Giants in the Meadowlands??? I don't know. The Bengals have the talent that is for sure. But their offense is stuck on stupid and their defense couldn't stop an 80 year old lady robbing a bank. So what makes me think they can win this game??? Nothing!!! Giving the points and I'll take the Giants.

Arizona Cardinals +3 @ Washington Redskins 1:00pm --- Arizona looks like they are ready to move to the next level. Washington won a HUGE game a week ago. This will be a close game but I think Kurt Warner's weapons will put them over the top. Taking the Cardinals.

Miami Dolphins +12 1/2 @ New England Patriots 1:00pm --- Matt Cassel wins one week and now we can give him Tom Brady like spreads??? Come on. I am taking Miami not because I like Miami as much as I don't like this spread. Oddmakers: Tom Brady is out until next year!!!

Tampa Bay Bucanneers +3 @ Chicago Bears 1:00pm --- My gut tells me though the QB change that Tampa Bay will outright win this game. I am not sure why, But I get the feeling this is the Bucanneers game.

Carolina Panthers +3 1/2 @ Minnesota Vikings 1:00pm --- A QB change for this game too!!! But with Adrian Peterson as a question mark, we could see more of Chester Taylor. Again this is a game where I believe in the road team. And it is a road team that has gotten off to a good start. Look for the Panthers to go to 3-0.

St. Louis Rams +9 1/2 @ Seattle Seahawks 4:05pm --- The Rams are an awful team. They make the Jets look like a real team. I am taking the injury riddled Seahawks to beat this Pop Warner team.

Detroit Lions +4 @ San Francisco 49ers 4:05pm --- The Lions CAN win this game. But I think Martz will prove his genius for one game and slice and dice the Lions defense. High scoring game. Look for it to be 38-31 Niners.

New Orleans Saints +5 1/2 @ Denver Broncos 4:05pm --- I like the Saints here. The Broncos should not have won last week. Brees should do well against this defense and I think this is another high scoring affair. Saints to win.

Pittsburgh Steelers +3 1/2 @ Philadelphia Eagles 4:15pm --- I like the Eagles to win this game. I don't like the spread. Though I think this is a FG game, I will play the Eagles.

Jacksonville Jaguars +5 1/2 @ Indianapolis Colts 4:15pm --- I anticipate that Manning will be Manning again. This would be a good game to get back on track at home.

Cleveland Browns +2 @ Baltimore Ravens 4:15pm --- Low scoring type game 20-17. I expect the Ravens to do just a little more than the Browns.

Dallas Cowboys -3 @ Green Bay Packers 8:15pm --- Aaron Rodgers, let me introduce you to the Dallas Cowboys defense. He will get knocked down and beat around. Dallas big in Green Bay.

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

New York Jets +9 @ San Diego Chargers 8:35pm --- How mad are the Chargers??? This could be a really ugly game. Look for the Chargers to get their first win with like a 38-17 throttling of the Jets. Brett you will wish you stayed retired after this game.

Those are the picks for week #3. Have a GREAT weekend!!! :wavingguy
