What are your predicted division finishes in baseball for 2005

I was born in the Bronx that means squat to me. I still think that Yankee fans believe they are better than other fans. Maybe not you but some do.

And that should not be the case. what just because they have like 5 million world series titles (or what ever the hell it is) that is just not right! :ranty:

I agree. So I will continue to be a Mets fan until I die.

I'm glad someone finally agrees with me :xpulcy:. And you haven't jump ship and gone off into Wankees ville

Thanks for considering me a humble Yankees fan TF4U. Ironically I went to manhattan today and passed the Mets clubhouse, I went inside and looked around. I was almost tempted to get a Carlos Beltran jersey but it didnt have the number in the front. They never get Mets replica jerseys right! I dont hate the Mets I hate the National League in general. Watching a pitcher bat is the entertainment equivalent of watching a baby getting his or her diaper changed. :blaugh:

But those are the original rules having a pitcher hit. Babe Ruth was a pitcher first. Besides there is more stratagy in the National League game. The DH ruins the game because you get a guy who is doing everything that Ruth did or Jimmie Foxx or Mel Ott or Duke Snider. You get my drift. The NL is a better game because it is the original game. 🙂

Horses and Buggies were the original transportation before cars came along...should we all go get a horse and buggy now and toss our Honda Accords? TF4U the sanctity of the game crapola has been bought and sold years ago so dont bother with "the way it was meant to be." Besides if the DH had come a bit earlier Mickey Mantle could have played longer and gone higher in the record books and YOUR Mike Piazza wouldnt have to make a fool out of himself trying to play first base. Its not the original game but it is the better game! In my opinion of course! :atom:

Wickerman I have been watching baseball since 1971. Jim Palmer hit and so did Whitey Ford and others. The game is better without the DH. More stratagy and just a more artistic game.

Ah TF4U, people dont pack in ballparks to see strategy...they go to see hitting and home runs!! However this debate about the DH has been going on for almost 35 years so well have to agree to disagree. One thing though, take a guess at what the highest paid position player is? Give up? The DH! I shit you not! Check your statistics (actually Paul O'Neill mentioned it last year in a broadcast so thats BETTER that statistics!). Do you think the players union is gonna let that go? Hell no! One thing is certain, the DH aint goin' nowhere daddy-o!! Anyone who feels differrently would you like to place a friendly wager? 😀

I agree that the DH is not going anywhere. I also know that fact about who is being paid the highest but that does not make it a better game. Fans go to more National League games than American League games. It's a fact. Yes, Yankee Stadium gets lots of fans but how many fans are watching Royals games or Devil Ray games? Don't tell me about records because the Mets outdraw those teams and they suck. So do the Cubs. Argue that buddy 😛

I guess it has to do with the classic big market vs. small market teams. The Royals and Devil Rays will never be able to compete with the Mets because they are from towns that arent rabid sports towns unlike New York or Sadiras Chicago. The Mets can sign a Carlos Beltran (and a wise move it was!) hence jersey/ticket sales and more general interest in their product. Youre older and wiser than me TF4U you know this stuff already! And I dont think the Mets are crap by the way...in fact I think they can win close to 90 games. :wavingguy

I have the older part down. I am not sure about wiser but who knows. Look at the Royals attendance in the 70's and 80's. They drew more fans because they were good teams. They can't compete in this era of baseball. Why because your team can outbid anyone. That is the reason. So if the fans know they can't win they don't bother. You don't need me to tell you that. Padres draw 1.6 million fans and they are not a big market. It is NL baseball. Pirates draw 1.5 million NL baseball. Royals and D'Rays draw 800,000 to 1,000,000 a year. AL baseball. Facts are NL will outdraw AL league teams because fans find it to be a better game.

I dont know TF4U I mean I just cant buy that watching a pitcher bat who has the hitting skills of my 2 year old niece is gonna pack National League parks because "it is a better game." The NL has Bonds,Pujols,Griffey,Thome and more stars than the American League. I think that has more to do with it. I mean people arent gonna flood Shea Stadium to see Tom Glavine hit all do respect. :bowing:

Was there a DH when Cy Young,Walter Johnson,Robin Roberts,Sandy Koufax, Babe Ruth, Don Drysdale, Warren Spahn pitching. But the game became America's Pastime. They don't consider it that anymore. I say the DH has 25% of the reason for that. The game survived with pitcher's hitting all those many years. Why has it sunk in the charts over the last 20 years? I am not saying the DH is the only reason but it is part of the reason.

LOL

i think your the only two that reply back and forth to this thread. :bump:

Seattle takes on Texas today at like 7:05 pacific time :veryhappy should be interesting to see how they do against them. since both Texas and Seattle are 1-2 and well the Mets are at 0-3

Yeah weve been arguing for like 2 pages, some good points brought up by both of us but here are the facts:
1. Bad News for TF, the DH aint going anywhere
2. Good News you dont have to watch it, just tune in to the National League and youll never know it exists.

Sometimes the bottom line is all weve got! 😎

Unfortunately I do have to watch it. There is interleague play. Besides I love baseball so I will watch regardless. I also know that it is not going anywhere. I know the DH is here to stay. So we will see FAT over the hill sluggers pad their numbers to make their case for the Hall Of Fame. Edgar Martinez is a perfect example. An absolutely outstanding hitter who spent the last 12 years of his career being a DH. He was hurt and I understand that but does he deserve consideration. He did not have to field his position for 12 years. He and all other DH's play half the game. They have no defensive skills. That is not a baseball player. That is just a hitter. Nothing more. They bring nothing else to the game. You have to know that is something to consider that they are only playing half the game. 4 at-bats and go home. My job should be difficult. I sit on the bench for 3 hours and swing a bat 4 times. Please don't tell me a pitcher's job is easy. They have to work hard at getting guys out.with a league that clearly favors offense. They have done everything they can to put the pitchers at adisadvantage. That is why the league did not acknowledge steriods after the strike. They knew they had a problem but did nothing about it. America's pastime. Yankees of yesteryear be proud of those teams.

Wow! That was the best post you made for the anti-DH in all seriousness. Now youre gonna have me looking cockeyed at Rafael Palmerio today. Well TF I knew you were smarter than me but now youre pulling far ahead! I warn you though if you convince me to become a Mets fan you better have an ebay account to sell my Mattingly jersey and buy that Carlos Beltran jersey I saw at Modells yesterday! You gotta be like a lawyer or a salesman by trade right? If not youre wasting your brain dendrites. Sadiras got her hands full with you my friend! :triangle:

I thank you for the compliment Wickerman.Actually I am looking to study to be a sports broadcaster. By the way Sadira is very smart. A great lady and a huge fan of the sport of Baseball and hockey. I don't believe I am smarter than you by the way, I am just a student of the game. I pay attention to every little detail of the game. The DH is a rule they came up for the 1973 and the 1974 season. It was an experiement that they were suppose to vote on. They never voted on it. I would pay for a very good pitcher before I pay for a hitter any day. Good pitching will always stop good hitting. Pitching and defense that is what wins championships. Need an example look at the 1969 New York Mets. Read about them. That team couldn't hit but .245 for the season. The Braves were a great offensive team and the Mets swept them in the N.L.C.S. then the Orioles who had 4 Hall of Fame hitters on that team and 2 Hall of Fame pitchers on that team and a Hall of Fame manager and the Mets won because they could match the pitching and then make enough plays to win the World Series. The DH is bad for baseball. As you pointed out they are the highest paid players on any given team. But they only play half the game. What a shame :sowrong:

Im gonna check that out TF! Thanks for the alternate view of the DH (the first good arguments ive ever heard against it! ) and I look forward to more discussions with you and Sadira about sports. By the way TF4U after the NFL Draft you simply MUST put up a thread on the winners and losers of the draft. Promise me! Good luck on your career in sportscasting, from what I see you have the knowledge and persuasiveness to be the next Howard Cosell at the very least! :bowing:

Again I thank you for the compliment. I really appreciate it.I think you will find that we can have great conversations about sports. I am not sure about being the late Howard Cosell but I will be the best me I can be. The NFL draft should prove very interesting. You and I will have to talk after my move to Michigan (which will be April 24th) and converse about it. You sound like a knowledgable fan. I like that. Are you going to any tickling gatherings? I am sure Sadira would like to see you at MTP. If nothing else it will be because she would know the sports talk would keep me happy.

Well I might go to NEST to go on a date with Ticklkitten but im not sure. Anyway the NFL Draft is April 23rd so dont let the move interfere with your posts PLEASE!! I need your input for fantasy football 2005 and I want the jump on WRs and RBs. Tampa Bay is gonna pick a RB and I want him. Ill tell you my current team...QB Jake Delhomme
QB Steve McNair
RB Curtis Martin
RB Warrick Dunn
TE Jeremy Shockey
WR Micheal Clayton

I want a RB bad! My team is old and this is my last year with them but I dont want to start Dunn. Ok see you after the Yankee game and tell Sadira that im gonna lace my sneakers extra tight so they dont come off my feet! :evilha:

Blue Jays & the Expos

I don't know about all that other stuff, but I see the Montreal Expos vs The Toronto Blue Jay's. The end of the American Pass Time LOL.

Well you NOW mean the Washington Nationals vs. Toronto Blue Jays because the Expos have relocated! :sadcry:

I am actually moving on April 23rd to Michigan to be with Sadira. :redheart: But I will look the draft over and I will get back to you on the Draft. You might want to start a different thread for that though. But I will figure out who got what and how it all shook out. That is not a problem.
