Biblical tickling?

Isaac, when sojourning in Philistia during a famine in Canaan, says that his wife Rebecca is his sister so that the men of the land don't kill him and take her.
But then the following happens (Genesis 26:8):
And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

In Hebrew, the word "sporting" is מצחק which means, literally, "causing to laugh." So, as a euphemism for sex, "Isaac was making his wife laugh."

However, the word for "tickle" in Hebrew, digdug ( דגדוג ) was invented in the 20th century (See the Encyclopedia Judaica article "Hebrew Language"). Interestingly,the word for "clitoris" is dagd'gan ( דגדגן ), from the same root.

For my biblical character to tickle, I might just go with Rebecca, who is described as beautiful. But Esther was definitely a hottie and lived in a harem...

I mean, Eve's kind of a given -- it wasn't just the Tree of Knowledge that turned Adam on, you know... And I think she deserves a bit of a punishment tickle for original sin.

For a female 'ler, I'd say Lot's wife. God's not going to turn someone to a pillar of salt for just looking at a burning city... She must've been pretty wicked, and that's a good trait for a tickler to have. 😛oke3:

As far as male ticklers, I'd go with... ...I don't know... ...maaaybeee... SATAN?! C'mon -- you all know the Lord of Evil has something vicious up his sleeve. That would be a sight to see.

Personally, though, I'd most like to see the Ramayana covered the same way: Shiva tickling Parvathi would rock. Especially if he broke out the extra arms/hands for the occasion!

Hmp. I thought it was weird and funny and speculative. Shows what I know. But I'd take part in it again. And I'm sorry if it offends your sensibilities. It didn't offend mine.

But just to be on the safe side, (seeing as how your and my opinion are dictated by cultural upbringing which means we are each biased in our own way), I think I'll leave it to God's infinite wisdom (and what I gauge to be a fair sense of humor) to objectively judge what it is in fact, and waiting for that judgement, I'll continue acting in accordance with my own.

Interesting thought on the angels, but theologians largely consider them androgynous: "to be neither distinctly male nor female, but to combine maleness and femaleness in perfect wholeness", and don't forget that "the archangel Gabriel... is commonly depicted with decidedly female features." (p. 174, "Angels A to Z", Lewis and Oliver)

I don't give much thought to what theologians say. Do you know of anywhere in the Bible that depicts Gabriel (or Michael, or any of the others) with decidedly female features? I'm not familiar with the book in which you referenced, so I'm not sure of it's credibility.

And just to clear the air, my opinion is not based on my cultural upbringing. It's based on my being a born-again Christian. It never fails how people expect Christians to never take offense to things. I'm sure if we had a thread in which we discussed who we'd like to tickle from the Koran, it would be perfectly understandable for any Muslims to be offended. But as a Christian taking offense, it just means I am unreasonable. 🙂

That means to not take revenge on another. But just like the martyrs, we should stand up for what we believe, and speak the truth in love (which can be difficult).
