and after that, gonna read "Phantoms" by Dean Koontz for the 4th time. that book is too awesome.
 
I'm a little ashamed because I used to be a voracious reader. I used to read at least three books at a time but lately, I just haven't been able to find the time.

I've read all of Rice's Vampire novels - ( I actually call her 'But I digress' because every time you meet a new character in her books, she has to give you their backstory .. and god forbid if there's some characte in their backstory she wants to tell you about ... Like I said - I've named her 'But I Digress' because she's the queen of digression.

I've read a lot of Science Fiction so when I see names like Ben Bova around here .. that really takes me home.

You've all inspired me... I'm going to find time to get back to it. I've got a bunch of Stephen King that I've been buying in the hopes that I'd find time. Guess I'll just have to make that time.
 
David, you don't happen to be a Poppy Z. Brite fan as well do you? I've got all of her horror related material. I was a bit surprised when she started writing New Orleans cultural books and pretty much dropped her horror mainstay.
 
Started Preston & Child's "Book of the Dead", last of the Diogenes series featuring Special Agent Pendergast.

Bella Donna, if you read this thread, get their book "Still Life with Crows." The character Corey is so much like you it's scary....

Reading the JRR Tolkien lord of the rings yet again and Jupiters Travels by Ted Simon yet again this is a true account of a non motorcycling writer who learned to ride and did a world trip on a british triumph. He wrote his first book in 1971, done this trip in in 1973 i think he was 42 and it took 4 years he stayed in india got married on his travels, its about life and people,Izzy you would love it, at 69 he did the trip again to retrace and meet the same people again this was in 2001 and that book is next on the list what a bloke.last month i did a fast hard motorway round trip of 250 mile and i'am still getting over it, not 20 anymore thats for sure.
 
Currently catching up on some classic horror literature... I finished Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" some time ago, now I'm reading Bram Stoker's "Dracula". I never read those in the original (english) language before...
"Wuthering Heights" is probably next on the list. 🙂
 
o how utterly cool Scavenger..a classic reader..and Wuthering Heights no less..i'm impressed..hubby couldn't get past the first page of Jayne Eyre..lol

i never read either of those horror classics however..are they worth reading?

If you're into it, they sure are.
Frankenstein was quite different as a story from the image we know from popular culture: no lightning to "reanimate" the monster", no "dr." Frankenstein, no Igor, and no Boris Karloff. 😉 Very cool read that was.
Not easy though for a non-native english speaker to read those book, as the english used is old and quite elaborate in it's vocabulary.
Dracula is a little easier to read, and still retains a lot of the "scare factor" that made it a classic to begin with. No matter how many Dracula movies I've seen, this original book keeps being fascinating.

I haven't started in Wuthering Heights yet, but it does seem one of the heavier pieces -language wise... we'll I'm gonna tackle it anyway. (seen the movie, love the song by Kate Bush, it's about time I read the book 🙂 )

just finished stephen king's "just after sunset," am reading "children of hurin" and just starting the nightrunner series by lynn flewelling. can't wait for the next george r.r. martin book in song of ice and fire.
 
I just finished "Seize the Night" by Koontz, and am moving on to the Twilight series--anybody read it? How is it?

I have a 40 minute (one-way) commute every day to work. Longer when people get terrified to drive on wet (or dry sunny) pavement. And, you can only listen to sports-talk for so long. Audio books make it easy, plus I can also listen to them as I work.
 
Ok, I have a list:

I'm reading The Deathly Hallow Lectures and Harry, A History. Also I'm re-reading The Deathly Hallows (aka HP #7) and The Goblet of Fire (or La Coupe de Feu, HP #4) in French because, hey, why not? Oh, and a Stephanie Laurens historical romance novel (I forget the title...) for some lighter stuff.

I have a 30 minute commute to work and I really like audio books. If I'm doing a road trip, I actually pack at least one HP book because I know I'll enjoy listening to Jim Dale reading it...it never gets old. And even though you can find a country music station just about anywhere (and yes, I do mean anywhere), the same songs get old after a while. And I don't have satellite or HD radio...yet.
 
I got A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare as a present so I can't wait to start reading that!
 
you know...i wonder if they are seeking people to read the audio books..i would like to do that...i used to read outloud all the time..

and Desdemona...i'm impressed...btw i love your screen name..
