i was a computer snob..meaning i would never ever have one in my home..and david agreed...then after my bout with depression three summers ago...david thought a computer might help..so he bought me my very first ever computer..a decision he later regretted as he should have known that when i discover something new..i become obsessed lol..i've since learned how to deal with computer and online..i time it to one hour a day..it's still fun and fascinating for me..but i've put it in perspective..not one hour at a time..but spaced out over the day...it's fun to have to google certain things.. like having the world at your finger tips...

what compelled you to buy your first ever? i guess i'm still relatively a novice to the computer age..

i have yet to buy a cell phone lol..

What compelled me?

A little game called Diablo 2. I had a friend who used to play this back in the ninties. He went on and on about it so my interest was piqued. The problem was that I did not own a computer. The only computer I knew of was the one my mother had. So I asked her if I could use it after work. She said yes. So when I got off, I took the game over to her house and played it until midnight and then drive home, sleep, go to work the next day, get off and go back to her house to repeat the cycle.

The only problem was that her comp was too weak to run it and after a series of glitches and crashes, I decided to buy my own computer. That one lasted me until last year. I'm now on my second which is IMMENSLEY more powerful.

I find this funny considering that fifteen years ago I swore up and down that I would NEVER use a computer, let alone own one!

I was house sitting for a friend in July of 2004. She told me I could use her computer and never having used one before, I went crazy! I Googled everything I possibly could and eventually stumbled upon TMF, thanks to my interest in tickling. I eventually became a member and was greeted by many nice people, such as Steph, Tickleshotel and many others. I found a home away from home! But my friend would soon be returning from her vacation and I'd have no way of staying in touch with my new friends. So I got money out of my savings account and bought a computer... the very same computer that I am using at this moment.

So the point is... I bought my first computer so I could keep in touch with my TMF friends. How's that for a heart touching story. 🙂

I got used to email and Google at work and wanted to be able to find sites like the TMF at home in private. 😀

I bought my first computer for my kids when they were in grade school. Also, for keeping up with sports, and finally to download music on Napster and make CD's. Now we each have our own computer (4 in total). I do video editing on mine as well as audio. Mine is a studio pretty much.

A friend at my old job talked me into getting one about three years ago when I was planning my escape from that job. All that winter I would just come home and play with the computer instead of spending alot of money going out every night. I saved a good deal of cash in case I got fed up at work and quit before I found another job. I'm still pretty dumb at the tech aspects of all this but the computer has helped me land my current job a year and a half ago. And save money! And meeting a great bunch of people whom I consider friends!!

^ we are brother and sister...three years only for you also wow...

Ah... the good old Vic 20... fond memories of that little thing.
They told me I could make toons and comics out of it.

Yeah, sure...

...

On the bright side, I eventually was able to draw comics on a 'puter.
Twenty-something years later...

😀

so i wouldn't have to use anyone elses and so they wouldn't bother me

Iz, I was of the same thinking as you that I didn't want a computer at home and thought I would never need one. Because I also work on one every day at work I didn't wanna have one at home too.

That all changed when I got into a German band 'Rammstein', I wanted to find out more about them so in turn I purchased a laptop and haven't looked back since.

I can say that I'd be lost without it now as this is where I've met a lot of great mates and one in particular (you know who you are babe 😉) and that was through Rammstein too lol.

Only thing is, it leaves me with money issues as I keep on spending online, and I must stop :xpeepsofa:jester::ranty: lol.

Believe it or not, I actually started using a computer when I was 4 years old...Played my first violent PC game at 5...and owned my first comp at 6...and at 8 I discovered the internet...and by age 10, I was using messengers....lol

Id say my love of tickling prompted my first purchase. My sister got her first computer around 95 or 96 and I discovered the AOL tickling chat room. Many arguments with my family later from using that computer I made a purchase of my own by 1999. Of course there is much more on here than tickling and the computer in many ways is a mixed blessing .

oh, I had that Webtv thingymabob that absolutely drove me NUTS. Yeah, it was better than nothing at the time---but I would come home from work having a "great" "normal" computer there and then coming home to THAT. I just HAD to buy me one.

Such a relief to have a puter...even though I bought a Gatewad..that's another story.

My writing desk at home looked so empty and deserted, so I thought I might as well adorn it with some techy looking gadget... 😛

Growing up we always had a computer of some sort. One of my earliest memories is playing games with my mother on a Commodore 64. First encounter with the "internet" was connecting to the local BBS via Prodigy in 1990 and playing a 2 player online text only wrestling game that my friend's father wrote. After that we were pretty much always a generation behind, but unlike most other families we at least had a computer. When I went to college I bought myself a near top-shelf computer, and just last year I bought another top-of-the-line machine from Dell. I was fortunate enough to be raised with technology, and it undoubtedly played a major role in my chosen career path as a computer programmer.

I had a friend who was selling hers for $100.
It was a good deal, given that was back in 99. It had good ol windows ME.
I have had a few different computers since...

I don't think I would have wanted one otherwise, but I figured I wouldn't have to use the library computers anymore. At that time all's I really did was get on MSN's stupid chat rooms.

Well I hate to say but since then, I have wasted plenty of time on the web.

Hah. I remember you being on WebTV, Vicky. Remember hanging out at Beauty's Castle when NTCWeb was off line?

Before I had a computer, I used to spend a lot of time on my SEGA Genesis game console. I first got internet access at the job in 1996. I bought my first computer in 1998. It was a Dell desktop Pentium II 333 mhz with 128MB of RAM. I bought it because it seemed to accommodate several interests. Music composition and arrangement, Internet access and interaction, games, etc.

I was in college and I needed a comp at home for my psychology and english classes. I had limited access to the ones at the college and having one at home meant I'd have access 24/7.
