What did you play on at the park/playground?

I love the swings and see-saw, still do 🙂

I also used to enjoy the climbing frames until once I went a bit too far, reached the top of the frame, fell and landed on my face on concrete. I got up and reached out for the side of the frame only to pass out with the pressure and amount of blood pouring from my nose. I had a head X-ray as my eyes were like panda's black and puffy with only slits for eyes.

Needless to say, I haven't been on one of those type of frames since. I learned my lesson the hard way.

Loved the swings and slide mostly

One thing i loved to do was to swing as high as possible and then make like a jump contest. We would do it all the time and i was quite good at it. Our playground was covered with sand so it was possible to land without too much damage 😉 i will admit bad landings were still painful 🙂

Also developed a technique that most of you must know also to swing as high as possible 🙂 it´s been a while!!! 🙁

Tether ball! OMG! I loved (and still do!) tether ball! My parents ended up making a tether ball pole for us girls.

I was always a big fan of the merry-go-round. Everyone would climb on and then someone would get that sucker spinning as fast as they could. We would than play a game called got it/dropped it with a popsicle stick.

No no, fuck that, get the trampoline. Next time I am at your house, I will get a full running start and leap onto it specifically for the extra distance.

You can record it just in case though. And yes I will sign an insurance waiver.

Especially when the person on the other side stops paying attention and you spike it into their FACE. If the ball is in a full swing and is headed upwards when it makes contact, you can get the other kid to go a good few feet through the air.

Am I the only one who didn't jump off the swings trying to get dead? :scared:

I like jumping off the swings with a good amount of momentum because it gives me a good opportunity to practice my safety roll.

the swings were always my favorite! I like the seesaws too when I had someone to do it with! 😀

Oh My God... King of The Mountain!

I ruled at King of The Mountain! All you needed was a mound of dirt and freakish amount of determination. It was the best! Closest I've been in my adult life was wrestling HDS. :trophy: = :dom:

It might hike up the home-owner's even more than a trampoline would though... :shock2:

I was fortunate enough to have one of those massive wood-and-tire arrangements at my school while growing up. I enjoyed enclosed spaces, and (jumping off from the) swings. I was somewhat solitary even then, and didn't really get much experience with things requiring friends (such as the see-saw) but I did very, very, very much enjoy the merry-go-round (spinning is win).

I also jumped off of the highest points I could find, which I forgot at first, that being something I've done a lot since jumping off the highest points I could find.

The see-saws always made me nervous. I was always worried I was gonna fall off them.

I hear that!

In my case it wasn't falling off that scared me, it was the fact the the other guy might be a jerk and jump off when he hit the ground.

It happened a couple of times. It dosen't matter what you have between your legs, plummeting from that height to a hard stop hurts!

My local playground used to be awesome when I was a kid. I was a monkeybar maniac. Then they got all stupid and decided to make it more "child safe".

Brilliant.

In place of the monkeybars, they made this dome-thing made of bars all at funky angles, so now you couldn't just sit on the bars and chill, 'cause gravity would pinch you in the corner of a triangle. One month after our new, lame, "child safe" playground was open, some kid climbed to the top of the dome, stood up on it (without the support of the additional bars the original construction of our monkeybars once had), slipped, fell through a hole, and annihilated his jaw on a bar on the way through. Dunno what happened to that kid after the ambulance came.

The one good thing they did in this new, "child safe" playground was arrange the swings in a circle. My friends and I had a great time swinging as high as we could, having taken swings facing each other, and then leaping at the apex of the swing, bodyslamming each other in the air and collapsing to the ground. Didn't take long 'til we learned that was not necessarily the best idea, but then we just competed for best height of launch.

"Child safe" is genius.

I loved the entire playground growing up, we have a pretty nice and stable structure, and finding new ways to climb up the thing was a lot of fun.

gotta say the swings are the top for awesomeness though, it still is.

get the trampoline, and if you also have a basketball hoop, all the better

I was always a big fan of swings. Trying to see how far I could jump out of them just as I hit the apex of altitude was the height of fun for my 7 year old self.

Tire swings were great fun as well. Have a friend spin you around and around and the one to last longest without getting motion sickness was the winner (our parents HATED this game hehe)

i agree with most everyone... i loved the swings. :cheer:

we used to have this metal dome on my playground that you could climb over and stand inside, there was a name for it but i can't remember (not a jungle gym... unless you call it a round jungle gym???) during recess we used to pretend someone was trapped inside by monsters and if you touched the metal bars you couldn't get them out. it was a good one for the imagination. they took it down a while ago because it was getting rusty 🙁 i never saw another dome anywhere else, i wonder if anyone here has seen this?

anyways, the swings rule.

Bill's list of eleventeen reasons why I can't have a trampoline is ridiculous: I'll break my ankles, someone else will break their ankles and we'll get sued, you can't mow under it and weird weeds will grow, they're ugly....:banghead: :hmm:

Meanwhile, where did you people LAND when you jumped off the swings?? In Bed-Stuy I wasn't tryin' to land in a nice pile of crack vials and Colt 45 bottles for the 'thrill :shake:

All of it! Though the swings were probably my favorite.

Ooooh!!!!

Did anyone have one those self-propelled merry-go-rounds?

The eight foot metal discs with handlebars and a steel plate at the center?

You had to use foot power to make it rotate. The big objective was to sit in the middle and get as dizzy as humanly possible with others (three to eight other kids spinning it as fast as possible) and then try to navigate yourself to the rim of the disc then jump off!

It was taken out of all the playgrounds in the city because some kid ended up getting a concussion once.

Did anyone else ever have a set of monkeybars shaped like a rocket ship on their playground? Or is that just a Saskatchewan thing?

Am I the only one who didn't jump off the swings trying to get dead? :scared:

I used to do that all the time, or or lay my back on the swing, put my feet in the air and flip backwards.

At least until I got a face-full of wood chips.
