What if everyone got six weeks' paid vacation, mandatory?

Let's be selfish and ignore the effects on the economy and all that. We're in "let's pretend" land, so don't worry about feasibility.

Imagine...we could have a National TMF Party, lasting a whole week, in Chicago or somewhere more or less geographically central like that...and you'd STILL have time to go home and visit Mom too.🙂

Maybe in a week I'll think it's a stupid idea, but hey, I never promised consistency.

That would be the best thing to ever happen to the TMF, Daumantas! 😀

And it would be good for the economy if it encouraged us to spend on tickling tools and the like.

You've gotta fight for your right to party! 🙂

And let's not forget the economic boost of 6,000 people travelling to a central location and spending money on gas, hotels and food! 😉

Actually, if we had that much time, there are plenty of other things I'd love to do as well. We've been talking about taking a cross-country trip (driving) at some point. Six weeks would give us enough time to really see things the way we'd like...even WITH a week stop in the windy city.

I Get 6 Weeks..

A year. And usually only take 2 or 3 maximum. I happen to like working.

Tron

Yeah, whatever, Tron. (I KNEW you were going to have a predictably gloomy answer to this thread; too bad I didn't make a bet with someone.)

Anyway - for the rest of us, as an alternative to Chicago, maybe Vegas? Or sunny Florida? (Or for that matter, even the Caribbean - on a cruise ship?)

Let your imagination run wild...😎

Considering that I don't get a paid vacation, unless you count layoff,
I wouldn't mind this one bit.

no paid vacation? at all? Doesn't that piss you off? 🙁

Chicago would be nice... orrrrrrrrrrr... Australia? 😀 Plenty of beach, beer and barbeque to go around.

However...

I do lOVE Colonial Williamsburg and virginia in general.

And what pray tell is wrong with someone who likes to work? And likes his job? What's so gloomy about that. I guess being happy more than 6 weeks a year is a crime now?

What's so unusual with that?

Almost all Germans get 6 weeks of paid leave as a normal part of their job contracts. The legal minimum is 2 weeks, but I don't know any employer who restricts it to this. Loading up your batteries every now and then is a good way to keep people motivated.

Nothing's wrong with it, Tron, except that the tone of your original post suggested that you look down on anyone who doesn't share your good fortune.

Let's relax, guys. It sounded more to me like Tron is simply rejoicing in the fact that he has a job he can enjoy. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, I suspect there are plenty here who would give up that six weeks for a job they could enjoy!

That's cool, Hal. The sad fact is that many companies here in the states give little or no time off...at least not payed. Many only hire people part time so that payed vacations and insurance benefits is not required. It stinks. But, they still get away with it. I'd say more about it. But, that's a topic for another thread.

So...to pick up where we were...

Besides a huge tickle gathering, what would folks do with that kind of time...either all in one shot or split up?

Ann

Nope...

I just enjoy working. I always have, I always will.
I liked my where I worked when I only had 2 weeks vacation.
I like the option of being able to take long vacations if i desire, but it'd be almost impossible to take 6 weeks at once. I'd never catch up to my back log of work if I did. I like being able to just take a day off if I want. To me that's better than taking 6 weeks.

Tron

The only way I can get a vaccation is to say...

I QUIT!!!

So, I think it would be lovely to have six weeks paid.

Especially during July or August!

I wouldn't be able to catch up on my backlog of work after 6 weeks off, either - but remember, this is a "let's pretend" thread. We're supposed to be ignoring real-life stuff like voice mails piling up...

I think most of you have the wrong job.

I work one day a week (at least a lot of people tell me that's all I work) and go golfing . . . well, this summer I guess I golfed about eight times.

Oh yeah, and I get all those great clergy tax breaks.

What a pleasant daydream...but reality doesn't always suck.

Traveling and visiting would be nice...personally, I'd like to donate some time to the humane no-kill shelters that are so overworked and under appreciated. I know it sounds almost sick to work during your time off...but it would mean a world of difference to a lot of animals. And that's why I chose my profession to begin with.

Not that I work overly hard. I don't punch a time clock. I get a day off every week and I rotate weekend duty. Nothing like breaking a little sweat and feeling good about it in the process.
