What is the most exciting sports event you have ever been to?

For me, I have two, or actually, three, answers to this question. My top most exciting sports event that I have been to, was Game 7 of the 1986 World Series. Even though I was not a Mets fan, I was rooting for them that night.

Second, was the 91 second Heavyweight Championship Fight, between Mike Tyson, and Michael Spinks, on June 27, 1988. We sat down, ordered our drinks, and never got them because the fight was over so fast.

Third, that same year, I had gone to see another Tyson bout in Atlantic City, on the night of my 18th birthday, ironically. It lasted four rounds, and Tyson beat Larry Holmes handily that night.

So, those are my top most exciting sporting events that I have been to. What are everyone else's?

Good question, unfortunately being in Australia and the teams I support are Bayern Munich, Germany in soccer and of course the Raiders so I haven't been able to see any of those teams live but I'm currently working out something which would put me in Cali during next NFL season and I will bust my gut to get to a Raiders game, I am crossing fingers.

But to answer your question about events I have been to; the Olympics for one but I couldn't care less about the the sports but rather the grand event as a whole. I did see Australia qualify for this years World Cup it was a good atmosphere, the crowd went crazy when they struck the winning penalty but that changed when people were saying Australia could beat Germany (never going to happen). I did go and see the exhibition game between Denver and San Diego but being a Raiders fan and only the sub par players there it wasn't that good.

As you can see the above will have nothing on a Raiders home game sitting in the Black Hole.

Watching my sister pitch in Little League. Why? She was the first girl in her league. Over thirty years ago. It was a very proud moment for me.

Divisional Playoff vs Oakland....

The Final game at Foxboror Stadium proved to be the most memorable. In a dramatic come-from-behind overtime victory that was sparked with contoversy. New England's fantastic finish against the Raiders is already among the greatest games in NFL history.

hmmmm....it's a toss-up between my only visit to Darlington for the weekend in 2003 and my first NFL game. That was the final year for Three Rivers Stadium and I got to watch my Steelers clobber the Raiders. Odd thing about that is I think that was the year the Raiders went to the Super Bowl against the Bucs and the Steelers didn't even make the playoffs.

Put it like this....it was a five hour bus trip from where I am to Pittsburgh. It was about half and half with Raiders and Steelers fans. Like I said, it wasn't a good year for Pittsburgh that year, but a great year for Oakland. So allllllll the way to Pittsburgh, we had to listen to the Raiders fans run their mouths, including my two friends that went along. Needless to say it was a much more peaceful ride back home....except where we took our shots....heheh

I was privledged enough to go the LAST game Miami (The U) played at Notre Dame..in 1990, when Notre Dame won 29-20. I got to see ir right before I went to Iraq during PG1. I went with my commander who was a ND Alumnist, thats how I got the coveted ticket (his wife was ill and didnt want to go and he knew I was an Irish fan).
I saw one of the greatest tandems of runners in Ricky Watters and Jerome Bettis. Raghib Ismail, Chris Zorich and even Rick Mirer (before he tanked).
It was my first time on Notre Dame's campus and I still to this day get chills thinking of looking at "Touchdown Jesus" and the Golden Dome in person.
I know there are MANY Notre Dame haters out there, but it is a BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS and that game is one Ill never forget.

On October 9, 1988, I was attending game 4 of the National League Championship Series in Shea Stadium, wearing my Dodgers warm-up jacket.

The Dodgers trailed 4-2 going into the 9th inning. John Shelby opened that inning with a walk off Dwight Gooden. The next batter, Mike Scioscia, hit a home run, just inches over the right-center field wall. 😀 Mike had hit only 4 home runs during the regular season.

In the top of the 12th inning, Kirk Gibson hit a long home run to center field to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. 😀 😀

In the bottom of the 12th, the Mets loaded the bases with one out. But Jesse Orosco got Strawberry to pop up to the infield, and then Orel Hershiser came in (on zero days rest, have been the starting pitcher the day before) to face Kevin McReynolds. He got McReynolds to fly to shallow center field. Shelby, running in at full speed, just managed to catch the ball at knee level to end the game and preserve the 5-4 Dodger victory. 😀 😀 😀

in 1979 i attended my very first professional baseball game. and it was game three of the world series. between the pittsburgh pirates and the baltimore orioles.. that was the year of the pirates, their theme song being we are family. it started raining in about the fourth inning, but because we were in the nose bleed section we were covered by an awning and didnt have to seek shelter. the rain quit the play resumed.. all my favorite players were playing.. willie stargell, dave parker, kent foley, something garner, heck i cant remember his first name but wow did i ever have a crush on him. now he manages a baseball team. phil garner it just came to me. and how stupid of me, but i dont remember who won that game that night, but the pirates went on to win the series..

milagros, I remember the game you are talking about well. It was the game that broke the Mets.
Isabeau, that is awesome that you got to go to the World Series. Having been to one, I can tell you, it is an experience.
The only other game of any significance that I ever went to, meaning a playoff game, was a first round playoff matchup between the Knicks and the then Charlotte, and now New Orleans, Hornets, at Madison Square Garden, in 1997. The Knicks won the game. They were pretty good back then.
Besides that I've been to a couple of interesting regular season baseball games, including one in Houston in 1985, that lasted 19 innings, and went until 1 or 2 am, but to me, the World Series, Championship fights, and Knick playoff games were my most exciting events ever.

Another exciting sports event that I went to, which I forgot to include on here, was the Pete Sampras-Andre Agassi, Men's tennis final, at the US Open, in Sept, 1994. Agassi won, and it was quite a 24 hours for me, because the night before, I had spent the night in the hospital with a girl I had just met. She was a diabetic, and drank herself silly, then passed out. At that point, guess who got to go to the hospital with her? ME! After going home at about 6am, I got a couple of hours sleep, and went to the tennis match bleary eyed. It was all quite an experience. Luckily, the girl turned out to be okay.

1979/80 Season......

.......the Red Dogs came to the Baseball ground as Champions of Europe. The once mighty Rams(victors over the Aristocratic Real Madrid at the baseball ground only four years earlier) were on their way out of the top flight, to the old second division, not to be seen again at the top table for eight long years. The manager who had delivered the Rams golden years of success was now in charge of the Red Dogs.

I have never felt or heard such an atmosphere at a sporting occasion, it was like Waterloo,Trafalgar,Dunkirk and D day all rolled up in to 90 minutes of football.

To our amazement the rotting hulk of a side that the Rams were at the time, sparked in to life and thrashed the finest side in European football 4-1

I have a tape of the radio commentary, which is still revered by Derby fans as something close to pagan worship.

in attendence id say 2003 when NIU huskies went as high as 12th in the AP poll and beat teams like maryland, alabama and iowa state. That whole season was amazing
