What is WWE's fascination with breaking up quality tag teams?

Seriously. I had to vent a bit. As of today's supplemental draft, both Deuce/Domino and London/Kendrick are no more. London and Kendrick, in particular, were the most exciting part of SmackDown until their departure to Raw last year, in my opinion. It amazes me. They have tag team championship belts on both Raw and SmackDown, and yet no real tag teams to speak of. So what do they do? Break up some of the better ones they actually have. Don't get me wrong... some split-ups make sense. Meanwhile, some guys are far better off as a pair. Deuce, Domino, Paul London, and Brian Kendrick are not suddenly going to emerge as top-tier singles competitors, though the latter two have all the talent in the world. More than likely, they'll all become jobbers for squash matches to big men like Khali. Can anyone who follows WWE explain this bewildering phenomenon to me? It's like they're intentionally attempting to kill tag team wrestling. It makes no sense.

For some reason they have decided not to ''push '' the tag team scene for several years. when a team really starts to jell, they decide to break them up.

It really is a shame because they are really wasting some talented performers

They've pretty much forgotten about the other titles. There are only a few teams worthy of the titles. Rhodes/Holly and Morrison/Miz have had two of the lamest title reigns ever. The Intercontinental Title hasn't been getting the attention and respect it deserves. The Women's title is actually pushed somewhat and they're even putting one on Smackdown. The ECW title doesn't mean anything at the moment. They just need to do more to push the guys who aren't around the top-two titles constantly.

Oh, I've been watching. I find myself constantly disappointed, too. They've absolutely dismantled tag team wrestling, and even abandoned the Cruiserweight title. Lots of guys in that company at the moment who have absolutely no chance at gold, and that's sad. Like you said, the last time WWE had a truly good tag division was in the early part of this decade. New Age Outlaws, Edge & Christian, Hardys, Dudleys and the APA were a real good nucleus. Even Too Cool had a good run. And then there was good old Kai En Tai. Poor Taka and Funaki never were really anything more than jobbers. Still, God love 'em. 😉

I don't watch wrasslin' these days... but I think Flocky and Sean got it right here... Some of the tag teams mentioned cannot be compared to in today's standards... They defined "tag team"... and you'll never see creativity in teams or gangs like "The Four Horsemen" or "Legion of Doom" etc. again...

That's true in some cases. Let's go back to when Edge and Christian split up. Good decision, because both had the star quality to stand on their own. For the most part, the same has been true of Matt and Jeff Hardy, but on a slightly less accomplished level as of now. Did Doug and Danny Basham have the same qualities? How about La Resistance? Or now, Deuce and Domino? My point is that some wrestlers are just better off as a pair. The Bashams never accomplished a thing after their split, and were subsequently released. Same with all three that comprised La Resistance. Vince may not favor tag team wrestling, but it's better than just flat-out wasting talent.

I get what you're saying. Still, I don't see the benefit in breaking teams like London and Kendrick. They were fairly forgettable as singles wrestlers before, so what makes Vince think it'll be any different now? On the same note, Deuce and Domino both have that odd, 1950's gimmick. How does that translate to money by splitting them up? I just don't get that decision.

But back to the question posed, yes, the Tag Team division is completely horrible. Like others have said, back in the 1980's, the Tag Team division was great. You had Bulldogs, Killer Bees, Demolition, Brain Busters, Islanders, Hart Foundation, even Power & Glory and Young Stallions. Now you have Cody Rhodes and Bob Holly. Man, the tag team division sucks now. At least give the belts to Carlito and Santino who would provide comedy every week as they cheat to hold onto the straps until finally the lose.

I hope the tag team division gets good again....

I know enough about entertainment to know variety is the spice of life, and that it is important (in wrestling) to try and keep the devtions at strong as possible. Considering the fact that both shows are so interactive now, why does he need to tag championships, why not unify them and then build a stronger tag divition. Why do the cruiser weights get snowed (other then the fact that McMahon doesn't value them). A smart buisness man would do his all to try and maintain all aspects of his program. Vince doesn't like Tag Team wrestling, and it's pretty obviouse that he only likes the big muscle heads. The tag team philosophy could work, he's just got to make it work. One thing I'll give Vince, he could sell Ice Cubes to an eskimo, so if he wanted Tag Teams to work, he could. If it doesn't work, then why put any time into it at all. Get rid of it as a divtion all together, and move on. Same with the CW Divition, lose it, and "bump" those guys into the IC and US divition.

As brutal as the tag division is, I'm really happy with the development of Miz and Morrison as tag champs. They've had a very underappreciated title reign of almost 8 months.

I wish Miz would actually say "HOO-RAH!" more these days, but I suppose they're moving him past it. They really are two of the better athletes to come out of Tough Enough. Some people don't agree with me, but I think Morrison has the potential to hold one of the big titles someday. You know, NOT the ECW belt. 😉
