Just wondering what your favorite sports are. It can be a sport you enjoy watching or participating in. Whatever.

Tron:

you shocked the shit out of me. I thought for sure you were going to say football.

I love GOING to a hockey game and seeing the big picture. Watching it on TV sucks because all they do is follow the puck. At a game, you can see the play develop away from the puck.

Why The Fuck...

Would it be Football? Football was my profession, not a game.
I'd rather watch something I can enjoy, not analyze.
Besides TV has ruined the game, and the current rules are turning the players into a bunch of pussies.

Witness the Warren Sapp hit last year. It was a LEGAL hit. Back in the early 80s anyone whining about that hit would have been out of the league within a week. If their teamates didn't take care of it, they wouldn't have made it through the next Sunday.

Tron

It WAS a legal hit

Assuming you are talking about the play against Green Bay.

I think what really ruined the game also is the free agency. Every year the players sign with another team and the team loses its idenity. I always enjoyed when the same players came back every year like the Giants, with Simms and LT would play Theisman and the Skins, or Cunningham and the Eagles, or Montana, Rice, and the Niners.

In my case it starts with the NFL, followed second by NCAA basketball. Its' a tie for 3rd with NHL/Flyers and the NBA/Sixers.

Baseball is a great game to play. I like to watch a game too but free agancy has ruined that game a little also pretty much for the same reasons I stated in my previous post for football. Also, with the salaries getting so much out of hand, management and ownership tends to coddle the players a little too much because they don't want to risk injury to their "investment". Also, it drives me nuts when I see pitching changes in the late innings of a game because of the percentages. I think that is an overrated strategy. Personally, I would like to know the success a particular pitcher had against a particular batter. Prime example is when Nelson was with the Yankees during his first go around, Frank Thomas could not hit him to save his life. Also, I am from the old school where a closer would go out and throw two innings for a save, and, more times than not, also come in with the tying run at the plate, not in the hole.

Bowling is fun for a night out on the town, but, as far as a participation sport, there is NOTHING in the world like a good game of racquetball. Gets the blood pumping and it keeps you on your toes.

Hockey is a good spectator sport if you are AT THE GAME. Football has made the game more viewer friendly over the last few years with the imaginary line showing how far you need to go for the first down. that helps you follow the game a little better

ooo PGT you snuck one in on me.

NCAA ball is fun because it is fast paced and exciting. the NBA is good although it has become more of a "show" rather that good clean basketball. While we are on the subject of basketball, it's a good participation sport as well. I get into a few pick up games from time to time at the Y when I am on my lunch hour, but my heart and soul still belongs to racquetball.

Soccer is my fav sport. The original Football, lol. GO D.C. United!

Fencing. Though when I practice it, it's as a martial art, but there still is a sporting aspect none-the-less, even from that POV. Pure sport fencing is kind of meh though.

my two favorites

softball, and hockey.
both for playing and watching.
i also coach softball.
football, and basketball:sowrong: both make me want to yak!

The Two-Man Upside-Down Volkswagon Luge.

😀

Seriously, I've been a die-hard football fan since the '76 Raiders/Vikings Super Bowl. (Of course, I've been waiting since then for the Vikes to get back...)

I also have been really getting into hockey lately. I've always liked the game, but it's not televised nearly as much as the other three major sports. Once I moved up here near Canada, the CBC carries a lot of games, so I've been able to get into it over the last 8 years. I even get to go to some of the Canadiens games. I hate the Canadiens, but the arena is only 45 minutes from here, and I'll go if a team I like is playing against them. Beats the shit out of humping four hours to Buffalo.

well, its always been hockey - the Flyers in particular. next would likely be winston cup (nascar) racing. and then baseball - the phillies and red sox. and finally, football - the saints especially.

i can not get into basketball no matter how i try.

any curling fans out there (not toe curling)

Why TICKLING, of course! 😛

Seriously, I guess I'd go with football or figure skating AFA normal sports and pro wrestling AFA simple entertainment sports...all on TV rather than in person since I don't like loud crowds. (And before you say it, Tron, I know. It's not a REAL sport. 🙄 )

Ann

football, baseball, bowling, WWE(sports entertainment, even though athleticism is still involved, for all the non-believers,(tron)),tickling, NCAA basketball, NCAA football, NBA basketball(only when playoffs start)

I have always said tickling should be a sport...look at all the sweat that is generated from a ticklee after just a few mintues of tickling.

Anyway,
Curling definitly😀 kidding.

Watching:
Football
Hockey

Playing:
Hockey(rollerblade/Ice)
Softball/baseball(I can't watch baseball on TV)
Bowling(298 baby)

Free agency has killed pro sports simply because like the Eagles the team changes every year. I mean really the Eagles haven't had the same middle lineback the last 3 years. Urlacher and Lewis are the execption to this.

The problem in all of the pro leagues now a days is that the owners can stop spending on players.
Look at hockey, $10 million to one a maybe first line player and hockey doesnt have the revenue other sports have.
The owners just can't help themselves, they almost need caps.
Anyway.

There Is No Athleticism..

Involved in a staged acting event..

Dave, when I lived out West there was no Hockey on TV ever. When I moved to mIchigan CBC was a godsend. They cover hockey the way it should be covered, no frills and it's all about the sport.

LONG LIVE DON CHERRY!!

Looking round nervously...............

......is this some kind of evil trap set up by the mods? can someone really be inviting me to comment on my favourite sports??......it must be a dastardly trap to get me barred and bombarded with scolding E mails about "spoiling it for everyone else" with my poisonous "spamming".

Oh well, what the heck, you asked for it.............

SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT, COMING FOR TO CARRY ME HOME!!!!....SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT, COMING FOR TO CARRY ME HOME!!!!!....."Have you worked out what it is yet?"

Favorite sport: BASEBALL! 😀 😀

One other sports that I watch: Women's pro beach volleyball, women's swimming and diving, women's gymnastics. Can you find the common denominator of these three sports?

Commonality...

Fairly low Tv ratings? What else could it ever be?

I'm another baseball fan, although Racquetball is still my fav sport and available on cable if you happen to live near Toronto...sigh.

Seeing as that it's all "strictly" national sports here, I'll ruin it all... Tennis.

It's a great game to watch, and it's one of those games where there is never a draw. Only winners or losers. And it's not boring at all. If people knew how to play tennis, then they can really appreciate it. I mean I hope Americans admire what people like Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, the Williams sisters, etc. have done/are doing to the game. I myself enjoy playing it and I'm representing my university team in competition, even though I'm kinda shit!

Baseball, Football, Hockey and NASCAR.
I've really been thinking of giving up watching them tho since all the greedy players up and leave , as stated before, leaving no identity to the team. That's why I won't buy any team apparel. You buy a players jersey for some ridiculous amount of money and then he leaves.

NCAA football is great but that too seems to be getting tainted by the sponsers.

NOTHING beats watching the kids Little League Baseball. A sport in it's truest form.

You dont........

.....want to hear me sing TKL-duo....just ask Jo Belle, she heard me sing that song the day we became WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
