Today I was sitting back and relaxing after a hard day of work. For those who don't know what I do for a living... well I'm a cashier. Right now it's 3:16AM and I got home hours ago, and for some reason I haven't been able to sleep right, and since I'm alone now, I have a lot of things to think about. And of course my job is one of them, I plan on getting into something else very soon, and I wanted to write this out and tell people before I do. I've been trying to come up with the right words for the longest time, but I haven't been able to think of anything, so I'll just wing it, and hope it doesn't sound too pathetic.
For cashiers that are on this site, you might know or not know what I'm talking about, but if you work at Target, or Wal-Mart, than you have a pretty good idea.
(This post is not directed towards anyone on the TMF.)
So here I go...
1. Have you ever had a cart loaded with items, and just as you go into a lane the cashier says there closing? It's happened to me, and frankly I get pissed off. I see that cashiers have other people in there lanes, checking people out, and now they won't take me? It's bull!
Or is it?
It might seem easy to some of us, as were taking our carts to the lanes, how all cashiers do is run items over a laser, and put them into the bags. And on extreme cases put those bags in our carts. But you have to realize for those who aren't on their feet for more than 7 hours everyday, that it can get tiring. I know how I used to pray my break would come any minute now, and the looks I got when I told someone I'm closing for a break.
2. Credit and Debit Cards...
If a credit card or debit card doesn't work... we can do less than shit about it. And getting pissed off at cashiers doesn't help the situation, and makes the customers look like asses. I remember people threatening to kick my ass because their credit card didn't work.
3. If a cashier asks if they "can" do something... there is a better chance they won't know how to "do" something.
I had a customer asking me if I can scan gift reciets, I asked a cashier behind me if we can, and she said yes. Well we went through the who process and he never gave me a reciet, well he paid, I gave his reciet to him, and he asked where the gift reciet was and I said "I didn't make one." And he asked me why, and I said "because I don't know how to." He gets pissed and throws a loaded bag of food at his daughter, and cusses me out!
What I wanted to say was "YOU STUPID FUCK! LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCANING SOMETHING, AND CREATING SOMETHING!" But I smiled and said. "Guest service can help you, so get off my back!"
That's all for now... I just get pissed off thinking about how many ways customers can be stupid, cashiers can not part waters, and they cannot make your credit cards work. If were closing, it's for a good reason, and stop throwing tantrums!
Thank you!
