Well, I'm glad I learned something from this thread.
Children raised with corporal punishment will grow up to be respectful and it's the only way to prevent them from becoming crazy, mass-murdering, raping, socially inept barbarians.
I don't think anyone said it's the only way. However, a couple did seem to think of it as the preferred way.
In any case, I only ever got hit maybe once or twice. For the most part, my mom would just scream at me and tell me to go do something, and that was usually enough. She yelled really loud. To this day I can't stand people yelling.
😀
But really, it all depends on the kid -- they can grow up with the worst shit ever and still turn out really well, or you can be brought up in the greatest way possible and turn out horribly. Everyone's different and no one way is going to work for every kid.
Every time I hear of child abuse, I remember a TV show I watched once, where this girl that was like 11 or 12 was being abused by her mom (you were just told what happened obviously, as it was telling a real story; stuff like putting the kids hand on the oven burners and stuff), and when she got checked out, all the scars and everything were so horrible that the people that saw it said she was in the worst shape they had ever seen someone that was still alive.
I felt so bad for that kid, and the show stuck in the back of my mind and I immediately associate any talk of child abuse with that.
