Okay, I guess I should finally start a thread on this.
For years and years I've thought there must be something wrong with me.
Why most people react with hysterical and other barely flinch?
Is there any hope for people like me?

Don't be afraid to get scientific.

It just has to do with skin sensitivity. Some are more sensitive, othes are less. There are even people who are unable to feel pain, be grateful you're not one of them! 🙂

But I feel pain. If put my hand over fire it would hurt… Maybe it's selective pain??

Pain and ticklishness is not the same thing. Not everybody is ticklish, not everybody is ticklish to the same amount, not everybody in the same spots. That's just how it is. Have you ever been in the situation that you were tied and every spot accessible and had someone really test if you really aren't ticklish at all?

No, and don't need to. I know nothing would happen. I would feel what the ler would be doing, but I would have no reaction whatsoever.
Unless someone digs into my sides, that would hurt, but it won't tickle.

How do you know if nobody ever had the chance to really try?

I know because I was tickled. But being briefly tickled and being tickled in a helpless situation bring different reactions.

I've always wondered the same thing. Although I have only come across three girls that weren't ticklish on their feet. But all three were ticklish somewhere else.

I always thought it was related to how much sex a person is used to.....you know, because they're used to the sensation of touch.

People have tried to tickle me with no success.
If I were to be in a helpless situation, I would just be expecting the tickling, so the element of surprise would definitely not be there.

Uh, no. Children are usually more ticklish than adults are.

All I'm saying is blindfold!

Won't make a difference. I think you have to be somewhat ticklish to have a blindfold increase the sensitivity and surprise element.
I haven't seen anybody admit there are 0% ticklish, but blindfolded they become 100% ticklish.

If only it was that easy….. 🙁

Dont be sad, it really depends on how well you know your ticklers, how close you are to them. Maybe when you are tickled, you tense up your muscles, that's why you dont feel anything. Try to relax, some people are only ticklish when they are relaxed.

The most interesting theory I've heard about why people are ticklish is an evolutionary argument. The argument was that it was something people developed to train ourselves to fight. The theory is based on the fact that many ticklish areas are concentrated around areas that would be very bad if we were injured there. For example there are major arteries in the armpits, thighs and hips. Your ribs protect many organs, your neck is important, stomach/sides are a soft spot, and without our feet we'd be in a very bad way. Now how this developed is it teaches you to protect these areas, and since it makes you laugh people will do it. For example I have one friend who immediately starts crying if she's tickled, so needless to say people don't find tickling her much fun. So the fundamental idea behind evolution is high survival value of a trait like being ticklish means more people will be ticklish, and natural selection will weed out those who aren't. It's believable to me that being ticklish had a high survival value ages ago because when from a young age you're trained to protect the areas that every other person wouldn't necessarily protect (head, centerline etc.) you have an edge, and you also know where to hit to do damage. Now the holes in this theory could be that the head and chest aren't the most ticklish parts and things of that sort. We also don't know if ticklishness is at all genetic. Either way, this to me offers a pretty feasible explanation of why most people are at least a little ticklish. Now for you and your ticklishness (or lack thereof), the exception, it just seems that according to this theory you came from a few rare genes that slipped through the cracks of natural selection. For this theory to be true we have to assume that ticklishness is genetic and that people do learn to protect these spots from being tickled. I don't think this is something we'll ever truly know in our lifetimes as it's not exactly on the cutting edge of science, and I doubt anybody's discovered a "ticklishness gene". Sorry if this reply is bad news to you, just something I read when I wikipedia'd tickling, and it makes enough sense. On the other hand, my girlfriend has a pretty big mental block she developed to deal with pain (long story) and when she's tense or in a defensive mode there's only a couple of spots I can get her in, otherwise the more she lets down her guard, the more ticklish she is.

Or if you poke them continuously 🙂

I'm still not absolutely sure how you know that you aren't ticklish. Tell me about the experiences you had that led to you knowing that you aren't ticklish.

Very interesting.
I have read about guys being so tough and and macho, but if they were to be tickled they would lose it.

A friend once snuck up behind and squeezed by sides. Instead of flinching or pulling my arms down, I remember thinking - "who is behind me touching my sides. Then poked a couple times, but no reaction at all.

I don't think anybody knows. Wiring of the brain, I guess. I lost it years ago. I got it back by sheer force of will.

And that's it!? Most people who sneak up to me like that seriously hurt me instead of tickling me.

@ SadCuzNotTcklsh
I was similar years ago, if someone poked me or tried a quick tickle I would only flinch initially and not because it tickled. More like a conditioned response without the conditioning.

Oh, and I do remember when someone tried to briefly tickle me years ago and I didn't respond in a ticklish way they said something along the lines of me not being ticklish. Well that really hurt cause my hope and dreams of being ticklish kind of just broke right there. But, since then I've met quite a few people that with the right kind of TLC and time have helped mend my broken ticklish dreams. Though, I am still stubborn, I have met the occasional person who has an easier time tickling me.

For a short while I had a super awesome play partner who would spend a hour or more to warm me up for our tickle dates. She even began working on training other areas to be "ticklish." I can be very stubborn unintentionally when it comes to a tickle scene and I can't turn the mental block off no matter how much I want it to not even exist. But, when I was able to indulge in being tickled semi regularly my warm up time would decrease and it depended on the ler's personal technique along with where they would start and blah blah blah blah. Oh and an enthusiastic ler can make a noticeable difference than someone tickling you only because you want it.

So, from my personal experience I think for some people it could be the lack of tickling and or other forms of physical touch that can cause someone to be very difficult to tickle or just not ticklish. And from a quick tickle you might not be able to tell the difference between the two.

I didn't mean that was the only time in history my life, someone has tried to tickle me. Word gets around ya know….
