That's not really the accurate way of putting it. During times of war (back in that time period) the gender balance was severely affected by war, and many women were left husbandless, or unable to marry because too many men had died.

So to protect the society, the men were allowed to marry a limit of 4 (so long as they were capable of supporting them).

Now a days, second/third wives often are divorcees/widows; mostly because young girls wouldn't want to marry an older man, and younger men would prefer to marry virgins. However there are women who never had the chance to marry until their later years, and would rather settle down with a man who has proven himself to be a competent husband.

Just as there are many practical motivations for marriage, the same is true for polygamy.

Anyway there's nothing (under Islamic Law) stopping a man from marrying a second wife who hasn't married before.

The original poster mentioned a much more mundane "cleaning woman".
Sure, calling her a "Brazilian maid" makes her sound way hotter, and his point weaker.

With 20/20 hindsight, he shouldn't have touched her in the first place, at all.

Well y'know how it is. Maids are convenient to have around to take care of the kid; but once he hits puberty, it can get risky.

I remember when I was younger I was friends with a guy who had a live-in maid; he had several of them over the years. The maid basically did everything for him, since both his mom and dad were constantly away.

When we were younger she was just somebody that brought us drinks while we played Nintendo, and disappeared.

Around the time we hit our teens, my friend's latest maid was really young and pretty. She would make small talk with me, and hang around us like a member of the family. Personally, I found it a lil awckard, not having been raised around maids myself; but he was at ease.

Over time I noticed he started getting a little too friendly with her around me. He even tickled her on her belly a few times. From her reaction I got the impression he did it often 😛

Ironically, when we were little I used to tickle him to death (play fighting) so I could imagine him picking up a few skills for his own personal use lol

Anyhoo I'm not a big fan of having strangers around my house. I can see how it would be necessary, but even then, it's just something I'm not comfy with, y'know?

I've seen my share of hired people.
That's why I say he should have been more careful.
