What's with brothers ganging up on sisters?

I have read a lot on this forum and just recently on the Ticklish Celebrities List for women that a lot of female celebrities were ganged up and tickle tortured by their brothers growing up. For example, Florence Hendersen said she was tickle tortured by her brothers growing up although she hated being tickled. Also, Maureen McCormick said the same about her brothers doing that to her as well. There were others as well.

I hear more about brothers doing that to sisters than the reverse. I mean what particularly motivates brothers especially to gang tickle their sisters? I mean is it some kind of power trip or something like that. I am an only child so I guess that's why I don't understand the fascination for doing this. I guess I missed out on a lot of that kind of stuff growing up but oh well 🙁 .

That could be your answer. Brothers are fine "roughhousing" as we called it with each other, but, as most boys are taught not to hit girls and the like, they have to find an alternative for picking on them. And, of course, tickling is a pretty good one. 😉

I'm an only child but always wished I had a sister. I just want(ed) a sibling to be close to though, not one to tickle. That would have been fun too though 😛 I don't really understand the whole powertrip business - heh, well maybe I do, but only in a playful way. I feel really uncomfortable thinking about people who tickle just to be horrible and end up genuinely tormenting their sister or someone anyway.

I think that it pretty much correct. You don't want to hurt younger sisters, so tickling is always a good way to keep them from getting too cheeky (which they're prone to do). lol
And their friends as well of course. 😀

i agree. but i have 1 older brother, no other siblings, but my brother was very aggressive so he hit me rather than tickle me when i bugged him. but i agree most brothers don't really want to hurt their sister (especially younger) so to get back at them without hurting they tickle. sorta wish my brother did that. it is interesting though.

In any case, another question would be if it's any different depending on the siblings? Like what if it's two sisters and a brother, or something like that. I've not heard of it as much, but I have heard of it.

It generally seems to be about majority vs. minority. If there are more brothers, the girl's the one who gets it. If there are more sisters, the guy's the one who gets it. Of course, this tends to depend on age as well, like two sisters picking on their little brother with tickling, but if he was older than them, that would be less likely to be the case. I'm also curious how this could affect someone in the long run if it was done regularly.

I weighed 230 lbs at age 16....my then 13 yr old sister weighed 100 at most. She was a petite little thing, but possessed a very nasty temper (was spoiled rotten); loved to slap, hit, kick, claw her older and much bigger stronger brother (not to mention delighted in "tattling" to mom and dad on me every chance she got).

I couldn't hit or kick her back; in fact didn't want too. I loved sis just as much then as today. It's ironic this subject was brought up....because three years ago, I actually called up my little sis long distance, and apologized for tickling her so much when we were growing up (even though I rarely tickled her after she reached 17 or 18). Her response? "I appreciate the apology, but in all honesty.....I was far crueler to you than you ever were too me" (and I still have a couple scars to prove it; one where she hit me with a rock once....required 8 stitches to close the head wound).

Was I wrong to use tickling as revenge? Probably....but no worse than sis clawing my arms and face bloody. I never hit or kicked sis in my life; even when tickling her, I ALWAYS took it easy on her; she recieved much worse tickletorture from two high school boyfriends....and especially her abusive ex-husband (who once got drunk, tied my then-18 year old little sis to their bed, and tickled her until she fainted. I hate him just as much for that....as for the beatings he gave her).

Also, just for the record.....sis tickled me in those days too; usually when I was carrying something (grab/ tickle me around the waist....and usually cause me to drop it; carton of milk, Pepsi, etc).

well, i think 4 the most part the sisters are usually the willing ticklees, i mean they enjoy it. Like my sister would just let me tickle her feet, we had some good times. hmm.... that sounded bad

Okay that is SOOO my life!!! 😀
Except for the younger/older part that is.

I have three younger brothers (two are twins and not much younger) But they used to tickle me loads.. Mostly because my parents let them get away with it..which i confess was pretty okay.
The only thing was that tickle torture was partly play for them but also could take on a sinister aspect.

By that i mean they knew all my deadly weakspots so they periodically used to tickle me to get what they wanted: such as watch a particular TV show if it was 'my day' or get me to help them with chores or let them play with some of my stuff (okay that may sound weird but what i mean is use my Barbies for play-gun target practice or something equally aggravating. )
The other thing they used to tickle me for was to get me after they got in trouble for something.

Okay, i don't mean this to sound arrogant or 'holier-than-thou' or anything but growing up let's just say my image was the 'good girl' big sister who did what parents liked.. In otherwords the three of them got in more trouble, not always deserved. Needless to say, they used to delight in tickling their older 'gooder' sister down a few notches. 😉

And then of course tickling older sister was a great way to entertain friends - some of whom were in my class and looking back i suspect may have liked me.

All in all, these major reasons gave them excuse to tickle me hysterically breathless, during the worst/best years, at least once a week!!

As we got older i admit it died down a lot - though i have to admit they did occasionally revert to the old days (happy memories) when i brought a guy home. I mean talk about embarrassing!!😱😱 Though on the good side it usually gave said guy-friend some delightful ideas..😛

Oh yeah, that was a staple in our house growing up. All my sisters got tickled a lot, whether they were older, younger didn't make a difference. That was the way all the boys in the house could get revenge. Matter of fact, it still goes on today, even in our older age. They are still just as ticklish today as they were back then. Sometimes even more ticklish

Well I guess that pretty much answers my question about me missing out on some tickle torture fun or whatever. Oh well I'll just have to get over it. Then some people I have told that I was an only child said I was lucky. As they say the grass is always greener on the other side or something like that.

I've always wondered about this as well. I am an only child, and, since my parents got married a scant year and two months before my birth, if I had a sister, she would likely have been two or three years younger than me, and her name would have been Allie, after my father's grandmother. Since I did not see tickling as a sexual thing until age 27, it is quite likely that if I had a sibling, tickling probably would have happened. My two best friends have sisters. One of them has a sister who is four years older than he, and the other best friend's sister is four years younger than him. The one with the sister four years older, told me that tickling did go on between them, even into their adult years, but, that his sister just isnt very ticklish. In fact, I recall one time when my friend and I were in college, he came behind his sister, and tickled her foot. While she didnt go nuts or anything, she did pull her foot away, and kind of looked at him funny. The other best friend told me that while there may have been tickling that went on between him and his sister, it was much earlier in time, and, due to TMF rules, I cant post about it, so, I'll leave it at that.

Me and Richie, Ralphie, Potsie and the Fonz would tickle little Jonie until she passed out. Then one time, as a joke, we tied her up and sold her to this gypsy family that lived near the train tracks.
