What's Your Favorite Donut?

I was on my way down to the kitchen to get come breakfast, and stumbled upon the half dozen donuts remaining from what I bought yesterday. I was wondering what everyone's favorite donut is!

My two faves are jelly filled and chocolate cream filled.

Best doughnuts I ever had were made at a bakery in Montreal when I lived there. It was on Cote-des-Neiges. They were huge kaiser roll sized jelly doughnuts, filled with raspberry preserves, or orange marmalade, or whatever filling the guy felt like putting in there. He didn't make them every day either, it was when he felt like. Quebecois to the bone.

Man, those doughnuts were fantastic. C'est sublime.

I like the standard Krispy Kreme honey glazed. But a brand new Dunkin Donuts just opened recently in Germantown. They passed the coffee and donut test with flying crullers!

Plain. Yep folks... just a plain no-glazed-powdered-sprinkled-or-filled doughnut. You would be amazed at how damn hard they are to find! So far... the only way to get them, up here in the boonies, is to buy a box of twelve (4 with powder, 4 chocolate coated, 4 plain) and find friends that will eat the others. *sigh* Why can't anything be simple any more?

The crunch ones. You know, they also can only be found in the 3 flavor variety pack where 1/3 are powdered, 1/3 are chocolate covered, and the final 1/3 are covered in a fine crunchy coating....sort of like a toasted coconut kind of appearance.

If I can't get those, then bakery fresh white frosted cake doughnuts.

Yes! Chocolate munchkins are awesome. ALL Dunkin' Donuts munchkins are awesome.

By the way, aside from Dunkin' Donuts, you can't get any good doughnuts here in my part of New Jersey. Forget it. You can get a halfway decent bagel (but you'll die before you find a real bialy), pizza ranging from edible to sheetrock, Chinese food ranging from good to second rate. You can go to one or two places that make the definitive Trenton local-flavor masterpiece, the tomato pie, and come away very happy. But, no good doughnuts. Being that it's Passover, let's be honest and call it a shonda.

(Another topic for conversation: no Puerto Rican or Dominican take out whatsoever 🙁 but that's a story for another day...)
