What's your take on cosmetic surgery?

I'm curious, TMF. I've been thinking about this for a while now, since a friend of mine had a breast augmentation. Her decision to do so was actually based on a medical reason, FYI. So how do you view cosmetic surgery? Is it only for the very vain? Or do you believe that there's nothing wrong with undergoing the knife for that sort of thing? I'll post my thoughts a bit later. Looking forward to reading any and all opinions.

i dont see anything wrong with it although i wouldnt do it, but i dont have a problem with anyone else doing so

I would do it in a heartbeat. I see nothing wrong with someone making them feel better about themselves.

I think that cosmetic surgery for sound medical reasons is not a bad thing. However if people are doing surgery just to do it and for vain reasons then I think it's kind of ridiculous. Personally I would never do cosmetic refinement, but that is just me.

At the very core of it, I don't see anything different between cosmetic surgery and altering your body in other ways, such as piercings and tattoos.

If someone wants to go through with it, then let them - it's their body, they can do whatever they like with it.

Sure, why not. If you have the money, and if it's going to help you feel better about yourself then go for it. I've often thought about having some done myself since I'm getting up there in the years...

I think it's unneccessary and those who get it are usually just compensating for something.

They have every right to get it, but it exposes them for the malcontents they are.

It gives people the rare chance to make their outer personality resemble their inner personality.

Fake.

being 38.. I already have a list of things that need to be done 😀 for one a breast reduction so those bad boys arent hanging to my knees when I am a senior!!!!!!

i think its realy stupid to do unless needed for medical reasons i think people should just leave there body the way it is that is just my opinion tho

I think plastic surgery is great. Life is all about options and the more options for people to choose from, the better imo.
I would like to state as well that I feel people who do it for vanity should be commended. If something is making you unhappy I applaud anyone who takes a step to try and be happier. It may not work the way you had hoped but at least you tried.

what about tats and piercings?? in a way that is altering your body😀

I also had a friend who had breast augmentation twice by the age of 20 as recommended by her doctor. They were pretty darn huge and was already giving her back problems and then a car accident and back injury really didn't help at all. She is a gorgeous girl but she told me it just wasn't worth the constant pain and that she would do all over again every single time. So, no, it's not just for the vain.

While I'd wish some people could find the peace, happiness, self esteem boost they are looking for within themselves, I have no problem with what they choose to do with their own bodies. I also liken it to piercing and tattooing in that body alteration is up to each individual. Rock on if you choose to.

each to his/her own; as long is you don`t do a Michael Jackson

Yep, this is exactly where I stand. In moderation, I believe there's absolutely nothing wrong with cosmetic surgery. Take, for example, a person that is losing their hair. Given the advances they've made in that particular area, I'm all for it. On the other hand, you'll never hear me tell a doctor, "OK, break every bone in my face and give me a totally new one." Not gonna happen. 😉

It is directly porportional to cash asset...

This is subjective. If you are a billionaire and you have the means beyond comfortable living, the temptation may be harder to resist. The living proof is Michael Jackson and people of the Hollywood who had enough cash to pay in exchange of what ticks them behind the scene.

Well people in the silver screen *must* look/feel good. It is their passport and they undergo enormous social pressure to look good. Why...people can nitpick them to death for every imperfection, and yet they still get the same buzz after each surgery.

My sister had breast reduction surgery about 10 years ago. She was a J cup by the time she was 18; she had the surgery at 34. It was very necessary and she isn't a malcontent at all. She tired of the back pain, the inability to purchase decent clothing, and the stares and ogles as if she was some sort of circus sideshow or porn fantasy. That's a tough place to be in as a teenager and I'm glad she did something that made her healthier and happier.

I believe that plastic surgery has its place. For me, I don't think I'd do it unless I actually got all this weight off someday. Then I'd get a body lift because dragging around sagging skin after busting my butt to lose weight seems pretty stupid.

But getting a boob job for a graduation gift or the serial surgery patients disturb me-I will admit that.
