I didn't intend on this thread meaning you shouldn't trust anyone. The original question was, when getting to know someone, what type of behavior do they have to show in order for a red flag to be thrown up to tell you that meeting them or talking to them isn't a good idea.
I agree. If you don't try to trust people then you won't know anyone. However, when I go into a new friendship or what not, this is my habit when building trust -- I go into everything with about 50% trust. From that point on, based on their actions and behavior, that percentage can go up or down. If it gets too far down, usually some type of red flag is there to make me not want to continue on. Also, it's nearly impossible to trust anyone 100%, I've learned.
