Where is Your Name From and What Do you Mean?

Apparently Wade means "to go." I'm totally an infinitive.

I think this is a pretty cool thread so I'll share mine.

My name is Alexander (Could you guess that from my username? :stickout)
and it is split into two parts The first being Alexein which means to defend and then there is Sandros Which means of men,man etc.

Put it together and you get defender of mankind..I thought that was pretty cool

Oh yeah..Apparently it's greek in origin

Well, here goes....

Edward..."Wealthy or Happy Guardian". Last name derives from the German word for pilgrim..Pilger.

Apparently, one of my ancient ancestors went to the Holy Land in 1096 to rid the area of the Muslims. Came back with honors and a family coat of arms.

First ancestor in the Colonies came from Germany in 1751. I am now able to join the Sons of the American Revolution because I was able to trace the family tree to this first ancestor. I am already a Son of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Our name is well-established in Germany.

My name is Melanie..it's italian for black..i was named for the character in Gone With the Wind, and a feminine version of my maternal grandfather, whose name is Melvin.

Nice thread, I never thought to look that up.

My real name is William:
From the Teutonic, Willehelm , literally "Will Helmet"
The will, or determination, plus protection - "Resolute Protector"

Wow. I like the literal meaning too. Sounds like a super hero comic.
For a moment, I imagined a blue mental force field surrounding my skull.

I wonder how many cultures give more importance to a name's meaning.
I didn't really even know my own name.

It would also be interesting to compare female vs male name meanings to see if they implied culturally determined roles, but there are usually masculine/feminine versions of the same name, so maybe there is name equality.

Javier, it has a Basque roots it means "The one who builds up the house"
I guess it's ok =P

David is for beloved. And it's damned right. LOVE ME OR I'LL CUT YOU!

Apparently Emma means Strength, and Catherine means pure and unsullied.
I suppose I can live with that

I once knew a girl in school who was unfortunate enough to have parents who were so stupid they named her, "Dorkus Clapsaddle" (I am so not shitting you all on this). Anyone care to guess what she did 1st when she turned eighteen?

NICOLE
Gender: Feminine
Usage: French, English, Dutch
Pronounced: nee-KOL (French), ni-KOL (English)
French feminine form of NICHOLAS, commonly used in the English-speaking world since the middle of the 20th century.

NICHOLAS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, French
Pronounced: NIK-ə-ləs (English), nee-ko-LA (French)
From the Greek name Νικολαος (Nikolaos) which meant "victory of the people" from Greek νικη (nike) "victory" and λαος (laos) "people". Saint Nicholas was a 4th-century bishop from Anatolia who, according to legend, saved the daughters of a poor man from lives of prostitution. He is the patron saint of children, sailors and merchants, as well as Greece and Russia. He formed the basis for the figure known as Santa Claus (created in the 19th century from Dutch Sinterklaas), the bringer of Christmas presents.

Due to the renown of the saint, this name has been widely used in the Christian world. It has been common in England since the 12th century, though it became a bit less popular after the Protestant Reformation. The name has been borne by five popes and two czars of Russia.

I dont really like my name but it means follower of christ.:sleep1:

Derived from the vocabulary word amber which denotes a translucent fossil resin used in jewelry making. It is derived from the Arabic `anbar (amber).

My particular name is based off one of my static character's I always make in video games, as well as basically one of my RP character's. Chais is a bunch of thing's, and he is also me.

if you were looking for a real name, wellll oh well.

My real name means crown, its was often given to our rulers as a title. Its still one of most popular names in this region.
