I,am a driver (mans world) and currently my boss is a woman, (sort of love hate situation)

My experience:

1. I have worked for great bosses; both, men and women.
2. I have worked for shitty bosses; both, men and women.

My conclusion: They both can be equally - great or shitty.

I hope I NEVER work with another female boss again in life!

Too catty, too competitive, and some are way too mannish for my liking. Feel the need to dominate and control; I'm not that kind of employee. I've always gotten along much better with male bosses. At least if you have an issue, they'll hear you out; not with the females.

To each his or her own I guess, but I definitely have my preferences.

Very true and my experience also. 😀

Yep. Gender has nothing to do with it in my experience.

I have preference to male bosses even though I've worked with some crappy ones including those who got an attitude when I didn't go for the sexual advances.

But at least I know what I'm dealing with. Dealing with woman bosses is a mixed bag of crap IMO. Especially if they're my age--then it's really a hott mess!

This. I have had a couple male bosses and a couple female bosses.

I have had nothing but bad experiences with female managers. The most recent one I worked for could best be described as: overly ambitious, duplicitous, superficial, unpredictable, and catty.

Well, as a female boss... I'm more than a little biased. I had a female business partner. Hated that. Had male bosses. Not a fan (and usually it was their wives running things). Much better to be my own boss. No gender issues 🙂

I wouldn't necessarily say that there's no difference between them and that gender doesn't matter: our brains are biologically different and it is not a matter of opinion to say that women are scientifically more susceptible to outbursts of emotion in the workplace (or anywhere, for that matter) than men: they have more of the Prolactin hormone (The stuff that makes you cry), for example.

In my general experience (I must stress that these are broad, but in my eyes correct, generalisations based on my own personal empirical knowledge and deductive reasoning), I have had shitty and great bosses that have been male or female, BUT the characteristics that make them shitty vary between the sexes. In my opinion:

BAD (Not all) male bosses tend, on the whole, to care less about the welfare of their staff as long as the targets of the workplace are being met: they can be poor man-managers. They can also show a proclivity for tight-fisted-ness and become complacent in their work more easily. I also think that men are more likely to come across as more lazy and under-motivated, which spreads a poisonous attitude among any workforce. They are also prone to distraction and can be seen to be less driven than their female counterparts. The one thing that personally drives me mad about poor male bosses is that oftentimes if they have a problem with someone they are less likely to say it to the face of the offending person, and are actually more geared towards bitching than women, who tend to be more straight with people at work.

BAD (Not all) female bosses tend to be overly uptight and less likely to appreciate humour in the workplace. I have observed that some are more prone to becoming "Power mad", especially those who have worked their way up in a company: these kinds of bosses usually have a chip on their shoulder, as though any complaints about the job that you may have are invalid because they've gone through it all themself. Stress, biologically speaking, manifests itself physically within women far more than men, too, and this can lead to poor people skills and a tendency to snap more easily. Bad female bosses tend to shout at people far more than bad male bosses in my experience. They can also sometimes take rules and regulations too literally and not display any flexibility in reagrd to these.

As I said before, I have genuinely suffered from about the same number of bad male bosses as I have bad female bosses, and my favourite boss of all time was a woman. All of the things I have listed for each sex I have noticed in the opposite sex also and I would say it's fair to deduce that neither of them make the "Best" type of boss, but the characteristics of their respective strengths and flaws differ and I guess it then boils down to which of these pisses you off the most, which is at the end of the day a personal choice. There is no right or wrong answer to this question.

Thanks for the extra adjectives! I could come up with one word that sums it all up.....then again some things are better left unsaid.

Amen sista'!

Last year I ran into an old friend; we've known each other since 3rd grade. She asked me "how's work?" My response was, "I've come to the conclusion that my personality is not conducive to the typical American workplace environment!"

I'd rather work alone than to put up with that crap again.

Female bosses....who tickle. :veryhappy

Oh wait, wrong sub-forum.

Seriously, I've never had a bad boss. And I've had several, both men and women. I've heard horror stories, and I'm sure that no doubt some of them are true. My experience is that in MOST cases, people complaining about their boss do so because they feel somehow that THEY could do a MUCH better job running things. 🙄

Men. I like the whole sleeping with the boss thing. 😉
