This goes out to everyone, from the most hardcore comic book fan to those who fondly remember the Saturday morning cartoons from their youth. Have a favorite superhero? Name him/her here and tell us why you love them so much. More than one? Great! Any and all contributions will be appreciated.
For me, it was always Spider-Man, followed by the Incredible Hulk. I still remember picking up my very first comic book when I was 11 years old. Amazing Spider-Man #350, which featured Spider-Man vs. perennial Fantastic Four villain Dr. Doom. I was hooked for a few years after that before finally losing interest in reading the comics, though still maintaining my love for the character. What I loved about Spider-Man was that, beneath the cool powers and awesome rogues gallery, he was just your average guy. He struggled to pay bills, keep a date, and even take care of his elderly Aunt May. He was easy to relate to.
The Hulk was always my second favorite. Here you have a guy in Bruce Banner, struggling with his inner demons, and trying desperately not to lose control. Of course, it was an awful lot of fun when he did and had a serious throwdown with any number of other Gamma-powered (or otherwise) freaks. But the underlying core of it all was the struggle of one man to overcome. Also very easy to relate to.
So, there you have mine. I look forward to reading any and all responses. Have fun with this, guys and girls.
