This sounds like the problem is where you live. In a lot of countries bare feet are considered dirty or a sign that you are either poor or low class. This is especially true with men. For some reasons (which may or may not be obvious to some people) it's a pretty prevalent view in countries where religion is a big thing.
I think you're pretty much screwed until you move to somewhere where bare feet is a little more acceptable. I see a lot of replies telling you not to care and just go barefoot but I don't think these people understand how big a deal being barefoot is in certain countries. It's a serious social faux pas. It literally can cost you jobs because it's so looked down upon.
I'm lucky that where I live (Canada) it's not such a big deal. Unless it's winter. Winter's are fucking cold in Canada.
