That some people think tickling is like, wrong? Im pretty sure if I told my brother about my fetish, he would think I was weird. Im just not that sure why that is......It is just tickling after all! What do yall think? 😕

I think it varies a lot, mostly on the person's background and own personal experiences. A lot of people don't usually discuss sexuality in any form, so the mention may be a bit awkward, and you may very well get a strange response from them.

I think a lot of younger people are starting to grow up with several influences from the internet, so we're all kind of waking up to just the awesome number of fetishes and sexual interests there are in the world. And when you throw all of them in a bowl and compare/contrast each one, I thank the gods that I'm a tickler...every time.

So in that vein, I've yet to find anyone in the real world that looked down on me because of tickling or what have you. I think many "vanilla" people tend to think of it as very kinky and sexy, but just don't take it as far as we do. Maybe I've just been lucky enough to be surrounded by relatively open minded folks.

I tend to agree that a person's background will have some influence on their reaction. For instance, I have two friends who know about my tickling fetish. One has many fetishes of her own and thinks it's cool that I have this. The other is very uptight about everything and thinks that it's not only strange, but sick...though she HAS tried to tickle my feet or poke me in the side on a number of occassions. Go figure!

Most ticklees will tell you that tickling is torture to them, even the ones who enjoy it. It is therefore natural for most people to think that torturing someone is wrong. Think about it. How right is is to do something to someone that they fight so hard to avoid?

You're right Krokus - it's just tickling, at least to most of us. To those who may never indulge their own fantasies, however, it may not seem so commonplace. Also, tickling often evokes a strong and uncontrollable reaction - something else that many people prefer to avoid. Lots of people just can't stand being out of control. Even the thought of losing control and being forced to reflexively laugh or screech horrifies them.

I think we should also remember that people acquire inhibitions based on the way they were "value programmed" in their youth. Value Programming is something a guy named Morris Massey of Colorado Univ. thought up. He postulated that many of our behavior patterns are "programmed" during our youth, both by the events of our early lives and by the values passed along by parents, friends, and even the time period and location of our upbringing. In this regard, remember that we are only about two generations away from a time when many women were ashamed to display their bare feet in public. I had a co-worker years ago who told me that her mother still had this hang-up, to the extent that my co-worker and her siblings were never allowed to go barefoot, even around their house. With all these residual Victorian hang-ups still rearing their heads on occasion, it's a wonder we have come as far as we have.

I think your friend's mother was acting more on class values than Victorian mores. My grandparents were her contemporaries. Gramps (1894-1972) had a repertoire of songs he would sing or hum, mostly music hall and popular sheet music stuff from his youth. One of them started, "Put your shoes on, Lucy, don't you know you're in the city?" At the time that song was written, poor rednecks in Corn Cob Corners went barefoot to save wear on the shoe leather, but respectable working folks (and their families) wore shoes.
