Perhaps some sort of biblical numerological significance? In there, I always see the numbers 3,7, and 40...

i was thinkin it was probly biblical and im not a bible follewer...ill have a luk on the net for it.

Some people would define luck this way:

A mystical force, quite fickle, that brings good fortune to some and ill fortune to others, but can change its direction instantaneously.

I would define it this way:

Random fluctuations from the statistical norm.

No such thing as a lucky or unlucky number, by my reckoning. 😀

A few thoughts...

personally I LIKE 13, but

There is on a Scottish Mason's apron seven tassels on each side.

In almost every system of antiquity there are frequent references to the number seven.

The Pythagoreans called it the perfect number, 3 and 4, the triangle and the square, the perfect figures.

There were for instance seven ancient planets. The sun was the greatest planet of the ancient seven and next to the sun, the moon, changing in all its splendor every seventh day.

The Arabians had seven Holy Temples.

In Persian mysteries there were seven spacious caverns through which the aspirants had to pass.

The Goths had seven deities, as did the Romans, from whose names are derived our days of the week.

In Scriptural history there is a frequent recurrence to this number. E.g. in Revelation 1:16 -- "and He had in His right hand seven stars, " alluding to the seven churches of Asia.

For Masons, King Solomon was seven years building the Temple. It was dedicated to the glory of God in the seventh month and the festival lasted seven days.

There are seven liberal arts and sciences.

Masons require seven Brethren to make a Lodge perfect and they have our seven steps on the winding staircase.

It seems that every culture has lucky numbers and unlucky numbers. In Japan, four and nine are considered as unlucky numbers because of their pronunciation. Four is pronounced "shi" which is the same pronunciation as death. Nine is pronounced "ku" which has the same pronunciation as agony or torture.

7 wonders of the world combined with the 7 deadly sins...

Just some possibilities...Q

7 and multiples thereof did play a visible role in the lives of the old testament believers, and in the scripture itself. and lest we forget - the 7 heavens.

You're blessed, little sugarmouse

Lucky numbers are as old or older than the Old Testament. Arcane numerology was developed by the Babylonians and applied by the Hebrews, Arabs & Greeks, and taught by Pythagoras in late 500 BCE.

It's based on the belief that numbers each have an inherent vibration which resonates with power. Mathematics as magic.

It came to Europe in the Middle Ages, when during the Crusades the Masons/Knights Templar encountered Arab science & learning, along with other arcane esoterica that they felt would give them magical power.

Numerology is a very old superstition, yes.
Which is still just superstition, IMHO.

I suppose 7 comes from the nearest whole numbr of days to a phase of the moon.

The full cycle [new moon to first quarter to full moon to last quarter to next new moon] takes about 29.5 days. Each quarter cycle takes about 7.375 days, closer to seven than to eight. That's likely why the time period of a week was developed, even before the current religious concept of the sabbath.

Just by biblical stuff, it says somewhere that 7 is the perfect number. And there's the thing that you should forgive your enemies 7 times, and then 7x7x7, I don't remember, It's been quite a while since I went to plaid skirt school. Mwah!

-Bell :cool2:

I heard a church sermon once that said 7 is God's number of completeness.

I have also heard that each of the cells in our bodies replaces itself about every 7 years -- a process called apoptosis.

Sigh...

No mysticism behind it. It goes back to how the ancient tribes would protect themselves. They realized any effective raiding party or defense party should have at least 7 people...

1 to lead
1 to lead in case the leader got killed
3 to either anchor or support the center
1 on the left flank
1 on the right flank.
