Will we ever make the jump into the mainstream?

You browse FetLife. You check Reddit. You scan 4chan. Where is the tickling fetish? I don't see it. We are a niche in the fetish world. I don't care what you say. Girls are never taken aback when I tell them I have a tickle fetish, because they're more surprised a tickle fetish exists.

For any of you out there that are shy about the your tickle fetish, just let it out. If you're comfortable with telling someone you have a tickle fetish, tell them. What's the worst they'll do? Think you're a little weird? Nonsense.

But I'm getting off topic. I had two people yesterday ridicule famous foot fetishists. And I just sat back and let it happen. "Oh Quentin Tarantino is weird because he licks feet."
Why do fetishes have this negative connotation? Why are people allowed to laugh at foot fetishists? I don't get it. Maybe this is all hard for me to answer as a non-vanilla.

What will happen when tickling makes it into the mainstream of fetishes?

Because everything that is different from the norm scares people. Period. Goes for minorities, goes for sicknesses, goes for fetishes. It depends on where you are and what your age is. In High School, even wearing different clothes works like that or being into another TV show than everybody else. That's just the nature of human beings!

Then at what point does it become the norm?

Never. To be the norm, the majority of people in a community has to be into it. And that will never happen.

Hang on, but "not being mainstream" is part of the excitement and intrigue. This ain't civil rights.

Personally, I'd love to see a "slasher" type of film replace the "slasher" with a "tickler". Instead of some evil guy cutting up some beauty, tickling her half to death. Of course, that probably wouldn't do our image as tickling fetishists much good.... 😛

Never....we're a different flavor in this vanilla conceived world.

I don't want it to be Mainstream. I love our little community.

What do you people even qualify as "mainstream", anyway? How would a sexual fetish even pull that off?

Explain what a "mainstream" fetish is, because that's always confused me.

Ditto - probably never, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I'm assuming he means something that "everyone's" heard of, like a foot fetish. I'd prefer it never being like that.

Personally I would not want to part with the edgy taboo feeling. It may cause some occasional awkwardness in hooking up,... but it makes the eventual reward that much more exhilarating.

It means you turn on the tube in the morning and Al Roker is commenting casually about it to the other talking cheddar-heads, somewhere between the Weather Report and the Smuckers Centenarian Birthday announcements.

You've taken the words straight out of my keyboard.

And I just want to add that this eventual reward completely outweighs that occasional awkwardness. 🙂

I couldn't care less if it becomes mainstream or not.

How other people deal with their fetish or how vanillas react to the tickling fetish in general doesn't affect me. I never had a hard time with this whole tickling thing, myself.

Though, the word 'fetish' itself tends to have a negative connotation with vanillas in general, almost akin to a mental illness. And tickling's more of a paraphilia anyway, and that's only if you absolutely can't get off without it.

I've actually found that substituting it for the word 'kink' seems to go over better, especially when prefaced with 'little'. Or it at least makes me feel better about it. 🙂

I believe you need to take into context the topic of fetishes in general or specifically our tickling fetish. I believe as fetishists, we have become part of the norm/mainstream because everyone is readily aware of our existence and have been brought into this area by the mainstream through our advancements in the community as a whole. Now if you wish to narrow down the topic to our tickling fetish, I don't believe we are mainstream nor can we ever become part of that category because tickling is only a small fraction of the overall fetish community.
