Windows Vista Sucks? A Real Geek's Rant.

Will that get rid of McAfee, or as Jimmy so eloquently put it, McAfail? I've been trying to delete it for a while now, but it's always saying deleting it takes more clearance than I have. >.<

It has the correct setup to uninstall McAfee. Problem is if you've already tried uninstalling it and didn't do it in the correct order. PCDecrapifier first tries to run the uninstaller for separate parts of McAfee in the correct order to perform a successful uninstall. McAfee is famous for not making clear that if you install part B before part A then parts c, d, and e will be stuck on the system. Just an example.

It's insidious really. They go far out of their way to make sure you can't use your computer the way you want to, hoping that you'll give up and keep buying their crap.

PCDecrapifier is something the world needs. I'll add it to my list of must-haves!!

"Make sure that you get one that has a 64-bit version of Windows installed."

What exactly does this mean?

I'm a certified technician, and Vista certainly doesn't "suck".
Not the most optimized or user-friendly, and should have been a lot better, but runs without a hiccup on my PC.

Heidy ho, everybody. I've got a new message for all the Vista haters! Ready for it?

>smack smack smack smack< Oj oj oj oj oj oj. Oh oh oh oh. Poh poh poh poh. Bud bud bud bud. >smack smack smack smack<

There you have it. My thoughts on their opinions.

I heard ultamite isnt bad but yeah Biggest disapointment in microsoft scence ME...god I feel nerdy.

I've liked Vista alot. It's just a shame that some companies don't want to support it and "upgrade" their software 🙁 It's their problem, cause technology is advancing and I bet what won't work on Vista, won't work on Windows 7, so it's the software developers' concern to update their software, not Microsoft to downgrade theirs 😀

And my laptop first ran slow with the built in bullshit like some recovery system wasting all of my RAM and CPU all the time, when it decided to do stuff I haven't "ordered" it to do. And gigantic Antivirus and Firewall applications are a nightmare. They crash easily and I don't get it when people don't blame big companies like F-Secure or Norton and McAfee. I mean they are more responsible for making your computer slow, not Vista.

But I got my pre-built laptop all fast and running, when I just formatted and installed it clean. And no, it wasn't "piracy" or anything. I already had a Vista Install DVD and I just used the key I got when purchasing the laptop 🙂 Now it works _REALLY_ fast compared to the "factory state" it was shipped in. Mostly everything has worked on my Vista and what hasn't, some people have said HAVE worked on their Vista operating systems, so it isn't always the OS's fault if something worked on your XP comp and not on your Vista one. TeamSpeak and Ventrilo, for example, have never worked on my Vista machine, but some friends said they work like a charm on theirs... mine says something that codecs missing and so forth.

A great OS, but Windows 7 will be far greater! 😉

If it works on Vista, it will work on 7. If it doesn't work on Vista, there's a slim chance it may work on 7. The product name "Windows 7" is a misnomer, it's not Windows NT 7.0, it's Windows NT 6.1, just like XP was the 5.1 to 2000's 5.0.

That is my #1 beef with PC makers. CRAPWARE. I do NOT need all the garbage that they, in their wisdom, think I want. For example... six different DVD burners (none of them work), four movie players (all suck), and an animated calculator that crashes when you click the = button. What's wrong with the disc burning capabilities in Windows, or Windows Media Player and Media Center? What's wrong with the Windows Calculator? Nothing, but HP gets a kickback from Suckass Software for bundling their shitty apps.

I have no idea what TeamSpeak and Ventrilo are, so I can't help you there. I sincerely hope that when you re-installed, you installed a 64-bit version, since that's where Vista's glory really shines.

A great OS, but Windows 7 will be far greater! 😉

Not really. I've used it, and it's... nice. That's about it. It's a touch faster, but most of that is perception. MS sped up the window transition animations (open/close window, minimize/restore) and played with the hysteresis a bit (hysteresis is the process of regulating motion and determining the user's actions) so that things would feel snappier. As far as real-world gains, I'm not sure I noticed much on my box.

If you go from a 32-bit Vista install to a 64-bit 7 install, though, you'll see a night-and-day difference, though.

Ending, I'd have to say that while 7 is nice, it's not nice enough to make me fork over for it again so soon. I already paid for Vista Ultimate (because I rock like that) and I don't feel like ditching it yet.

On a partially-related note...

What the fuck was up with Yahoo killing the Vista version of Messenger? They claim it was so they could focus on 9.0. But there's one problem... the Vista version was rocking the world, while Yahoo 9 blows turds out of its brown-and-crusty mouth.

Vista Messenger was a high-quality app written to use the Windows Presentation Foundation, the next-generation display layer added in Vista. So far, nobody's wanted to support WPF. I'm not THAT surprised, since Windows developers are nine times of ten the laziest and most backwards. They keep around support for asstastic OSes like Windows 9x when they could take their quality to the next level and actually, oh... I don't know...

KEEP UP WITH THE FUCKING API.

I just don't get it, man. What the Hell happened? Did Vista Messenger get killed because someone at Yahoo wanted them to focus on that assy 9.0 Win32 version of Messenger? Shit, man. 8 was better. WAY better.

If I could, I'd paint a screenshot of Yahoo Messenger 9 on the inside of my toilet bowl. Then every time I had to take a crap, I'd shit on it. If I owned a bow and arrow, I'd put a screenshot of Yahoo 9 in the middle and use my hatred to get a bullseye every time.

I mean, come on. I wish I were Sylar from "Heroes" so I could go to Yahoo's HQ and open someone's brain up to find out why they killed a superior product only to continue development of THEIR WORST PRODUCT.

WORST.

WORST.

WORST.

I can't say it enough. WORST. Yahoo 9 is like being forced to eat 5-day out of date mayonnaise. It's like having to watch a Michael Bay movie without getting toked out. It's like having your genitals worked over with a cheese grater. It's like watching Naruto without being able to scream. It's like...

It's like a lot of really bad things.

If there's a TT member who works for Yahoo, please... find out who made the call to kill the Vista version of Messenger...

And stomp on their crotch while wearing golf cleats, please.

I'll help you fill out your unemployment forms.

'Just wanted to say this about Vista: I do use it, it ~normally~ runs fine, and I would recommend to other people just as I would with XP.

That said, it does have a few minor issues that should be fixed.

First and foremost, I hate being asked if I ~really~ want to run a program. Easy enough to solve, and most of the time you'll only be asked once, but I'd rather it just leaves me alone.

(For example: Open a program, "Do you want to run this program?" Yes. *Attempts to use it.* "You need to run it as an Administrator to do that." *sigh* *Closes and reopens as an Administrator.* "Do you want to run this Program?" Yes... "Windows Vista needs your permission to run this program." JUST GET ON WITH IT!)

Secondly, compatibility issues are very rare. But with certain games, such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, it can be a nightmare just to get it to run, in this case, it just runs an older version of SecuROM, and when you try and update it corrupts something.

(Although the issue is a combined effect of Vista and SecuROM, Vista will generally get the blame from your average gamer. Not getting into a 4-page rant of techno jargon.)

Other than that, works as fine as, if not, better than XP. (With twice as much crapware to dump!)

Edit: Something else to note. Windows 7? It is Vista. Just with more popups, and it makes tabbed browsing, pointless.
