I feel like because of other great shows of the time such as Seinfeld, Friends, and the Simpsons, Wings got lost in the pile of garbage shows that nobody seems to remember. Granted, most comedies of the 80's, 90's and 2000's have been terrible, so it is easy to forget some of the more successful ones that lost out in popularity to the Seinfeld's and Friends during the time of it's original airing. I recently bought the seasons on DVD and I can't believe this show is not regularly aired anymore in reruns like those other comedy shows. Does anyone else feel that Wings got the shaft or do you think it was a lousy show?

I LOVED Wings. I definitely think it was an underrated comedy. I would probably put it in my "Top Ten" of all time. The characters on that show were so great. My favorites were Antonio (Tony Shalhoub of Monk fame) and Lowell (Thomas Haden Church), but I loved them all. USA Network used to show reruns, but I haven't seen it on there in a while. Thanks for giving Wings some props. It definitely deserves some.

It is absolutely in my top 5. Antonio is so funny, it was hard to picture him as Monk afterwards because it's literally the complete opposite of Antonio. I used to think the redheaded sister that came on later was hot. The show got better with every season I personally thought. Unfortunately it was the 90's and a new unsuccessful show was being aired every month, so when it finally came to and end, it was forgotten. I mean, we have to remember that the last great comedy shows came out during that decase. Seinfeld, Simpsons, Friends and Frazier of course. So because of shows like that which lasted longer, many people forgot about Wings.

I still love Brian (steven weber) the best. The episode where him and Casey go to the singles mingle and he freaks out trying to seduce the bartender and convince her that he isn't desperate and lonely, while Roy is the "player" of the singles group and Antonio still is the most pathetic person on the island (they offer him the first refund in the history of the Nantucket singles mingle because he's hopeless)...lol.

Not to nitpick, but the Simpsons started out in the 1980s on the Tracy Ullman Show. That was one strange chick.

Wings was great. Helen Chapel was hot, and her sister Casey was especially hot.

I was regarding when they were in their primes, not so much when they started.

Please don't compare 'Friends' to the comedic genius that is and was 'Seinfeld' and 'The Simpsons'. Friends may have been popular and all, but... please.

Anyways, 'Wings' was a underrated show. Same with 'Newsradio'. Amazing to me that shows like 'According to Jim' and 'Two and a Half Men' can get syndication rights (on the basic cable networks at least) while Newradio and Wings haven't (or at least that I've seen)

OMG, News Radio!!!! I totally forgot, another amazing 90's show that feel into the pit of despair thanks to all the shit that has come and gone over the years. Seinfeld is comedic genius that no other show in history has or ever will compare to it. To me, Friends kinda sucked, but I know for some reason a lot of people love it. Why, I don't know, but it always had great ratings. Newsradio and Wings are both probably two of the most, if not most underrated great comedy shows of our generation. They weren't cheesy, they didn't fall into the boring watered down category or married couple shows like "everyone loves raymond (insert vomit here)". Wings was way better than Friends, probably slightly better than Frazier, and a little better than News Radio. Only two shows more deserving are the Simpsons and Seinfeld from the 90's.

Also, I used to think two and a half men was funny until it was just the same shit season after season (got old fast). I actually think Scrubs was underrated, but it is still played regularly in reruns so I'm cool with that.

In her prime, that Redhead that played Casey was one of the most smokin hot girl I've ever seen.

Wings was a good show.

I would say Wings is funnier and just a better overall quality show than anything that has come out in the 2000's in terms of sitcoms.
No 30 minute tv show that orginated in this millenium, accept maybe Family Guy if you consider that it didn't come out until 1999, is even close to as funny as:

Seinfeld,
The Simpsons (1990's simpsons and not the most recent decade of crap they've created),
Wings,
News Radio,
Frazier

I'm pretty much in Cy's camp on this.

I personally love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but it's a Seinfeld replica basically. It doesn't compare to Seinfeld and it doesn't get the audience of shows on like NBC and CBS. I love it though and it's my favorite show on television at the moment despite not getting the attention that it deserves. However, I feel that if it were on NBC or CBS it wouldn't be able to do the things they do on the show.

Arrested Development was great, but didn't hang around long enough, it was only like 3 years so I didn't count it, but very underrated.

I personally don't find any of The Office (american or british) that funny.

If we're gonna count other shows that aren't NBC or ABC or whatever type shows, I'd throw in Reno911! as well because I loved that show. But I mainly was regarding shows that were on the major television network channels. FX is a popular station, but it's not popular in the way that the others are.

Wings was AMAZING. Frazier too. I think Wings is better than Seinfeld, to be honest.

For modern shows, Always Sunny in Philadelphia is fantastic, and Californication was great for Season 1 though I've heard it's tapered off somewhat (haven't seen any of the newer seasons). I like The Office sometimes, but a lot of the humour is just humiliating Carrell's character, and I am not a fan of that type of humour, which is also why I sort of hate Larry David's show, which is just all about placing him in awkward situations. It's not a bad show by any means, I just don't care for that style.

Wings, however, is completely fantastic. It was my favourite show growing up. Hell I might buy the DVDs now that I've been reminded of it.

When I was in high school they used to air the re-runs on USA every morning usually from like 10-11a.m. I remember every summer I'd always make sure I was up and not busy all summer long in the morning so I could watch all the episodes. Bearing in mind this was probably 8 years before dvr and at least 5 years before shows started getting released on DVD.

We think alike as well I'd like to add. Personally I find the humiliating a character comedy to be very awkward and uncomfortable for me to watch. It's just not my cup of tea, and I feel Carrell's character is too over the top and the rest of the cast just don't have funny parts. The Pam and Jim thing is just idiotic too because no couple wants to work all day together and then come home together. That is the recipe for a disasterous relationship. I also Love Always Sunny, but it just basically took the idea of Seinfeld and took it to a whole higher level. Frazier was another amazing show that I still love watching. Although I liked Seinfeld better than Wings, I actually like the characters better on Wings, but the situations and plots to the episodes of Seinfeld were a little bit funnier usually.

I loved Wings! It's only on very late at night when there's a full moon following Tuesday. :smilestar

That was Amy Yasbeck, John Ritter's widow.

Yea I remember now. Amazing how what was hot 15 years ago pails in comparison to what people look like now. Still, I'd put her up against any hot chick from the present and still probably choose her. Not too often do you find a hot redhead.
