Has anyone here made any useful furniture in your own home ?

Transference from typical domestic use to our interest is a secondary benefit at this moment (but still of great interest).

Yep. I've done a few things...mainly shelving for books and videos...nothing too fancy, since I don't have the tools for that. As soon as I get other things caught up with outdoor projects, I plan to build myself a new (and larger) work bench and shelving for my shop area so I can get back to work on crafts, etc.

I made a bondage board a couple of years ago. But, we ended up dismantling it since we found that we prefer the bed. We've talked about making a set of stocks. But, I'm not sure they'd get much more use than the board did.

I made a few things in shop class in high school. I made a night table for myself, and a few other things. The best thing I did was when I made a drawing table for my sister.

Ann (anybody),,,,

Got plans or drawings for the bondage board ?

I'm thinking about the domestic aspect of it. Sooner or later somebody's going to come around here and see it.

"Somebody" could mean: Landlord/Maintenence/Pest-Control guy(s), Parents, relatives and in-laws, younger relatives, co-workers, church members, and the presidential candidates.

Nope. I don't. All I can tell you is that I did two 3' pieces of 1X12 on top of a 2X4 rectangular frame for the torso area. Then, I did extensions at the four corners for the limbs. I cut mine at a 45 degree angle. But, you can do different angles or (what I would do if I did another) do double swing brackets that could change the angle depending on who was using it. (Besides making it able to be modified according to the lee, it would also make the limb extensions removeable for easier storage.)

Anyway, once the thing was assembled, I took 2" foam padding and faux leather to upholster it. I did a couple beads of glue to help keep the foam in place. The leather, I tacked in place first with a staple gun (on the underside) and then with brass upholstery tacks on the visible edges both for added hold and to dress it up a bit. For the straps, I got cheap and simply went to the local dollar store and picked up several luggage straps, cutting them to the sizes I wanted and replacing the plastic buckles with velcro. I attached them with the same upholstery tacks I used on the rest.

It wasn't exactly professional quality since my tools are limitted. But, it wasn't half bad and definitely served its purpose. One note though. You'll want to use heavier straps if you have someone who fights a lot. The ones I used are fine for most people but won't hold up under heavy strain.

I hope this helps a little.
