This question is for everyone whose employed or seeking employment. What do you expect from a good employer, and in turn what should that employer expect from you?

From my employer, I drive big rig,I expect loyalty I expect them to keep me rolling as much as leagally possible I would expect that they would want loyalty from me as well as doing my job safely and keeping the customers happy

I expect a paycheck and cordial interaction with management, while being regarded as expendable by management behind my back, but hey... business is business.

Employers should expect employees to fill the respective job descriptions, be on time, dress appropriately, and return cordiality with cordiality. They also can expect anything covered by contracts their employees sign.

From my employer I expect respect for my dignity and abilities and hopefully a measure of the loyalty I render him.

What they can expect from me - that I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities, show respect to those I interact with, and loyalty.

Not to bore you, but here's a little employment test:

You go in for an interview to get a job as an auto mechanic. The boss is in his office, sweeping the floor. He hands you the broom and asks you to help out, because he has to run up front and help a customer. When he comes back you:
1. have sat down and leaned the broom against his desk - because you're not there to apply for a job cleaning up.
2. have swept the clutter in the center of the floor into a neat pile.
3. have moved furniture aside to sweep the floor as clean as possible.

I'm want to hire guy number 3. He's demonstrated his willingness to do the task to the best of his ability, and he's going to go the extra mile to make things work.

I am that type of person.

"An honest day's work for an honest day's wage" sounds right up my alley, but thats an old fashioned way of thinking these days, especially if you're talking about physical labor, which I don't do. I have before, but I don't do it now. But the sentiment that you should get as much as you've earned seems fair. No matter what you do, if you do it well you should be paid well. In the case where your wages aren't any higher or lower than anyone else's, "give 110%" is another sentiment I believe in. It leads to better security within the business, raises may come sooner as will promotions.

But in turn, when you recieve these extras I think you have that much more responsibility to prove to your employer that you deserve what you have.

I think it should all be considered proportional. The honesty and thorough completeness of your tasks and job, and the ammount of money you earn.

If something is out of balance then someone is losing unfairly, either the employee or the employer. Its a win-win situation when the employee and the employer have a mutual understanding of their business relationship and both watch out for eachother, take the other seriously, and respect eachother.

I work at a local college, where I recieve a reasonable salary, good holiday entitlement, good pension scheme. I am treated well. Cannot really ask for much more from an employer.

I expect to be educated in the business as much as possible from my superiors, I want to be well informed of what direction the company is headed. I expect vigorous debate and insight during meetings. I expect reasonable pay, and of course dignity and respect from the company that I work for.

My company should expect me to never stop trying to be qualified for the job. That means continuing to learn as much as possible. And of course follow the contract that I signed.

Sole Seeker I probably fit in catagory 2 right now but I will make a concious effort to be a catagory 3.

My job doesn't pay a lot but one of the reasons I stay is my boss and the company~what they do that I love is reward you for doing well~raises, Christmas bonuses, Christmas and summer parties...If we have a good month, they'll buy us lunch or move tickets for 2. It's nice to feel appreciated....
XOXO
