Ugh, sadly Polska is gonna get blitzkrieged by germany twice in its history, they shoulda never lost to ecuador. Naturally i root for USA but i also root for great games, and with Brasil shaping up to possibly be the best brasilian team in history, ive def been watchin that, best game of the opening round IMO has been Brasil\croatia. Fans running on field, flares in the crowd, close goals, nonstop chanting, god i love world cup

dont get me started on the ECU game. POL was not offsides on that "no goal". ECU was offsides on one of theirs. how ya gonna hit the post twice? ugh... and yea, i knew poland was gonna get beat by germany. they did better than expected. i thought it was gonna be an ass whoopin. i guess i shouldnt complain about bad calls and hittin the posts, germany did that all at once near the end. o well...

Two things -

1 - Poland had 4 new players in and played 100% better this morning then they did against Ecuador.

2 - It was obvious that the pressure put on Germany by the media and the DFB about their defence took its toll on them, both Ballack and Frings held back for most of the game and rarely drifted forward to attack, the same can be said about the whole team - only Podolski and Klose were forward and then it was usually only one of them. Thank God for Odonkor, he changed the game soon as he came on. I still dont why Kuranyi isn't even in the squad if he was on he would of put away the chance at the end.......I think German did what they had to do and fully deserved the 3 points.

I totally agree. Odonkor was the difference maker. His speed and agressiveness totally changed the game. Germany had at least three chances in the first half that they could have, and should have one might argue, buried in the net. The one by Podolski right before the half sticks in my mind (on a beautiful pass). So while I think Poland played well, it could have easily been 3-0 or worse.

I'm rooting for the U.S., but getting out of our draw would of course be a monumental task. There was no shame in losing to the Czech Republic. But the way the U.S. team loss was discouraging. They created very little space on offence and few scoring opportunities. The defensive breakdowns were taken advantage of by a opportunistic Czech team. No one pressured the passer, who had all the time in the world, before that beautiful cross and header for the first goal. The second occured when the U.S. failed to clear (twas a gorgeous shot, though). After watching Italy and Ghana play, we are not playing up to the level of talent in our draw- not even close. But I won't give up hope.

while im 100% usa born and raised, my ethnic makeup is about 90% german and i was visiting germany in 1990 during the world cup (i was 16 at the time and could drink beer there, it rocked!) , so i am torn between the USA and Germany. im not a big soccer fan but id like it if either of those teams won. peace........BLUE_THUNDER

England into the round of 16!

Congratulations to my friends across the pond! I thought Beckham played a strong game- created a lot of opportunities. And that clear by Terry was wonderful- I think I'll remember that for a long time. And Gerrard's drive (with his left foot :wow: ) was a rocket. A nice win. Added bonus having Rooney back in any capacity, I'm sure. Congratulations on a well deserved victory!

I'm an American, ergo I know nothing about socc... um, I mean football.

Rummenigge is not anynore around, but I still go for Germany.

Firstly I have to ask - who the hell is Odonkor?! Who does he play for?!!! I thought he chipped in the most impressive performance of the tournament so far and Klinsmann would be raving not to start him in their games from now on. I know Poland are hardly defensively sound as they showed against Ecaudor, but he turned the game on its head for me. Germany had no real penetration up until then and then suddenly it looked as though they might win 5-0 after he came on.

But anyway, I support "Ingerlund". The team that is, not the F.A. or Sven Goran Erikson or Steve McClaren (Sam Allardyce takes Bolton Wanderers from FIRST DIVISION mediocrity to being very arguably among the finest teams in the league, who were unlucky to be knocked out of Europe ((And also nearly beat Sevilla when WE played them, but ended up drawing)) without two pennies to rub together and in five years; McClaren spends £35m+ and assembles a team that have consistently finished outside the top ten every season: WHAT THE HELL!??) at all, especially after the game tonight. I gotta disagree with the dude who said we played well, I must say. In the first half our plan A seemed to be "Give it to Lampard and then Frank, shoot on sight" and in the second half our finishing was among the worst I've ever seen, and I've seen Shola Ameobi play on several occaisions. I can't see us progressing to anywhere near where we potentially could/should with this guy in charge. His only good move was bringing Lennon and Downing on because it stretched Trinidad and Tabago. I couldn't understand why he hadn't done that from the beginning to be honest; it worked better in ten minutes than knocking hopeful long balls for our srtikers and wingers to chase did in eighty. I think Euro 2008 will be our tournament because we'll have either Wright Phillips or Lennon, who are actual wingers, in that position instead of Beckham who has looked out of place for a long time now, for me anyway. By 2008 I think all the hype surrounding us winning something will be justified, especially if we're playing more pressing football instead of this long ball bollocks.

As you can probbaly tell, I like my football! I fucking love the World Cup! I really haven't seen a bad game yet and I've only missed a couple. My second Team is Australia, who have a much better team than people think and could possibly surprise Brazil, who have a much more vulnerable team than people think.

I like Portugal. Let's go Portugal.

If not them, SPAIN.

I thought i'd never live to see this... :wavingguy I believe that Portugal has a chance to make history! If so, maybe the world can finally notice, that Portugal isn't any city in Spain...lol 🙂

David Odonkor -

Plays for Borussia Dortmund, obviously in the Bundesliga. He was born in 1984 and he was prepared to play in the U-21 European tournament (like most of the German squad) before Klinsmann gave him the 'phone call'.

Personally watching him play in the Bundesliga I was impressed but didn't think he would be ready for the World Cup, but that performance against Poland opened my eyes; like what the commentator said "he isn't a sprinter put into play football he is a footballer that can sprint" (if your not really into football you might not get it lol)

I think he is a better impact player then a starting player.

Please lets be serious EURO 2008 is Germany's :woot:

how rude! coulda put that a little nicer don't you think? and there are americans that like that sport...i'm not one of them, unless it's womens soccor, becuase if i'm going to be bored, might as well have a nice view right? lol...but yeah, i root for usa's soccor team and will watch them and root for them..but i think we're going to be gone soon, i heard if we lose one more time we're out, i don't know if that's happened yet.

I will always root for the U.S., however that first game left a really bad feeling in my stomach. I was completely embarrassed. My pick from the beginning of the tournament has been Holland and so far nothing I've seen has changed my mind about my pick.

I know some of our compatriots have taken the loss to the Czech Republic rather hard. So I beg forgiveness of the international community. I think, after the progress that U.S. soccer has made and the way we played on Monday, this is an understandable reaction.

Haha. Nah. I think your only really world class player, Ballack, will be past his prime by then. Our three world class players, Lampard, Terry and Gerrard, will all be in their primes by then and maybe Joe Cole and Ashley Cole will both be considered world class by then. Other young 'uns like Walcott and Lennon will have come on even more and of course Rooney will have improved as well, so I think we'll have as good a chace as anyone.

I'm just watching the team that I think will win it on this form - Argentina. They've scored three brilliant goals so far against Serbia & Montenegro.

go netherlands, tunisia

of course, as an american, i'm pulling for the u.s., but to be honest it's really not our sport and it'll unfortunately show as the tournament goes on.

but i'm in a pool at work, i have the netherlands and tunisia - neither team has lost yet!

anybody see angola draw mexico today? i heard angola fans and broadcasters were going nuts. angola was such an underdog that the draw was about as good as a win.

First of all, this is not America, but an international forum with members from over a hundred countries. So maybe you could take off those star-spangled blinders for once. But then, we all know your narrow-mindedness by now. Besides, the Golden Rule says that you should shut up if you haven't got anything nice to say. If you're not interested in world sport number one, okay; but why comment on it then? Just to bait or insult others? :disgust:

Second: I agree that hockey or basketball are a lot faster and show more action. But do you seriously consider a mostly standing sport like baseball less lame than soccer? Or American football, where the game gets interrupted every few seconds (which mostly favors TV commercials)?

Open your mind just a tiny little bit, and you'll get a whole lot of more fun. Or just shut up if you've got nothing constructive to contribute, will you?

It's understandable... It was their first time in a World Cup event ever in their history. And the fact that they were able to gain one point from a great team such as Mexico, greatly marked further on that history. Angola will not sleep this night, my father was born in Angola, and believe when i say this, that nation is all about dancing and partying...lol Of course that that was a country who suffered terribly with war some years from now, so it's only natural that they will enjoy this day even with more energy.
