World Cup

First of all, this is not America, but an international forum with members from over a hundred countries. So maybe you could take off those star-spangled blinders for once. But then, we all know your narrow-mindedness by now. Besides, the Golden Rule says that you should shut up if you haven't got anything nice to say. If you're not interested in world sport number one, okay; but why comment on it then? Just to bait or insult others? :disgust:

Second: I agree that hockey or basketball are a lot faster and show more action. But do you seriously consider a mostly standing sport like baseball less lame than soccer? Or American football, where the game gets interrupted every few seconds (which mostly favors TV commercials)?

Open your mind just a tiny little bit, and you'll get a whole lot of more fun. Or just shut up if you've got nothing constructive to contribute, will you?

My mind may be little, but its big enough to know soccers lame. :disgust: good luck to the rest of the world with that sport!

6-0..................I think that made the world sit up an take notice.

Well mate, all I can say is this.

If the English lose to the Germans on penalties, I'll HANG MYSELF. 😛

lol, If German lose to England I wont have a chance to hang myself, I will be in a maximum security prison somewhere.

Kust

Obviously, I go with Portugal 🙂

I was not too optimistic about this world cup but up untill now things are looking good. We beat Angola and Iran so we have won our place in the top 16 teams. We have a nice scoring status of 3-0 considering the two games.

Now we will be able to play without pressure against Mexico and after it will be either Argentina or Holland. Personally I´d prefer Holland cause they´ve lost to Portugal on euro 2004 and also qualifying for world cup 2002 (we left Holland out of it!).

I have a particular care for 3 portuguese players who launched their careers on my small hometown (Maniche, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho). Also Mantorras and Akwa from Angola played here so I´m also going for Angola.

Poland is already out....too bad, they seem a nice people!
England I don´t think they can really win.
Germany has a strong chance but is not one of best teams.
Brasil is not so strong as many believe....but still are on the top5
Argentina seems to me the strongest team!

USA is getting ass raped, and its not by the Italians. What is the referee thinking, the US first red card was a foul for sure but yellow SHOULD of been given thats just crap - all it was to EVEN it up.

Now I just saw Pope get another yellow :ignite: what the fuck is this ref on??

Oh oh oh I have seen the best, an Italian player claimed he got elbowed so he falls to the ground holding his leg hahahaha.

1st and last time you here me say this

USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA

Come on you Americans hold on!

Kust

That's a massive effort by the Americans, holding on pretty much the whole second half with 9 men and getting a goal disallowed in the process then a hand ball that was missed in the Italian box.

Kust

Yea that ref is a shithead.

Way to go USA, you guys fought hard.

Now go beat Ghana. =P

C'MON, ENGLAND!!

2-0 so far!!

Who can stop us eh? 😎

Hiya Gremio, Everybody! :bunny:
As it happens my b/f is totally with you on this. As for me i don't usually follow it too closely but with my b/f so into it of course it's all the rage around here! :blaugh:
So i confess it's all left me rather conflicted. Do i cheer for the Asian team - like i've always done? Or for Germany which has a better chance of winning and with which i have close personal ties thanks to having studied there years ago or do i leap beside my guy and cheer for Eng-er-land?? 😕

In the end, i'm still going to pull for the first two even though for all other games we see, i'll be with my guy hailing the English. :wavingguy

And yet, i confess it's fun sometimes to cheer against him. - It is an awesome way to get great tickles....:cool2: :veryhappy

*Chickles raises a glass and shouts* "Here's to England!! *then quietly whispers under her breath* "Go Korea!" 😉

Many blessings,
Chickles:redheart:

Haha reading the Sydney morning papers im reading reports out of England saying that they will 'play' to avoid a meeting with Germany in the second round haha. Bring it on.............

Kust

Are there any koreans here? They made a real number on France! They will have to play like they mean it now, in the next final game if they wanna get qualified for the next round...

I couldn't believe the US game yesterday. However even playing 10 vs. 9 we outplayed them in the second half except for the last 6 or 7 minutes when it was obvious we finally became tired.

Watching the Italian team dive and go to the ground as though they had been shot every time an American player was near them was a total disgrace. The Italians were supposed to be superior, but used cheap tactics the entire game, but alas it only brought them a tie. Unfortunately as an American fan we have to root for them to beat the Czech Republic for us to have a chance to advance, we have to beat Ghana also. With that showing and now all the problems in the Serie 'A', I will root against any Italian futbol team in the future.

I'm as happy with the U.S. efforts as I was discouraged by their 1st match. They really turned it around. Much more energy, far fewer mistakes, more creativity- putting Dempsey in the line-up was a good decision (even if everyone was clamoring for it). I thought the refs were horrendous- they potentially altered the outcome of the game, yet neither the red card on Mastroeni (who was having a really good game) or the second yellow on Pope was appropriate. Then again, with the amount of cards that have been handed out during the course of group play, only the red on Mastoeni was out of keeping. I felt that Donovan and Onyewu and some of the guys who didn't play so well in the first match really redeamed themselves.

:fish:Go U.S.A.!

Christ, we (England) drew against Sweden?

... We have some problems. Now that Owen has went down, I don't think we can make it very far.

Damn...

My three teams of choice has always been England. Germany and Italy. Unfortunately Italy's been kinda down lately. And what the hell was up with all those red cards against the US last weekend???

And maniatickler, you may not like it, but millions of people across the world love and cherish the sport! The same kinda people who wouldn't give a rat's tail about baseball and basketball. And also, this is the real football (being played with mostly the feet and all), not the other sport where you kick the ball on only two occasions 😛.

England seemed rather exhausted in the second half, Sweden looked much stronger. They might present a real challenge to Germany in the next round.

Italy is well-known for their unfair posture, pretending fouls and all that. Besides, they have quite a lot of problems: 6 of the Top Ten teams in their Premier League face trials for corruption. They have some great players, but I've never been a fan of their way of playing.

Brazil looked a bit weak, too. I think they're not the Harlem Globetrotters of football anymore.

Two other teams have come up as potential favorites: Spain and Portugal.

So, I'm looking forward to an interesting next round!

Wanna talk about pretending to be fouled? Remember when that Saudi player pretended to be rolling around on the ground and the ref just goes up to him and hands him a yellow? That was great ^__^!

I've always doubted Englands ability to win this tournament mainly because there squad apart from there starting 11 is very average and also there lack of strikers, they should have brought Defoe with them so they have options, now they'll have to use the untried Walcott.
I've not been impressed by england at this tournament so far, but then i think they've become a victim of their own hype, I've never seen a team so over hyped. I don't deny england have good players i think lampard Joe Cole and Gerrard are among the best midfielders in the world and i can't rate Terry highly enough. But there claims that there going to win this tournament are well wide of the mark.

Argentina are on fire at the moment and there a team to watch, i'm really looking forward to there game against the Dutch, i expext them both to do well, the Dutch team are actually getting along with each other for a change.

Is it just me or is Michael Owen as useless as tits on a boar? He has to be the most injury prone player I've ever seen. Jesus.

Its a shame because he is a good player but it looks like hes destined to become one of those players who could have been great if they weren't always injured

C'mon England!

Portugal is gettin' better n' better... Three games, three wins! The fact that the mexicans weren't able to score on that penalty gave portugal the upper hand in the game, cause Mexico was obviously frustrated about that miss wich could have been a turning point in the match. That lack of luck, transpired on their gaming skills throughout most of the game. This victory left the Portugal in a much more conforting situation, of course that all teams are dangerous at this point, but i would rather have to face holland than Argentina in the next round, so watch out for 'em... :cool2:

The knock-out stage is nearly set, I think 4 matches left....I can see a few up-sets happening; mainly the Italy vs Australia match.

I feel bad for Owen, he is much like Deisler - gets his team in position to qualify breaks his back doing so then gets injured before or during the tournament. It will be a blow to England not only for his play making ability but also depth on the team.

I still think Germany has a good chance to win the whole thing or come very close.

Kust

The Holland v Portugal is the game i'll be looking forward to, both have impressed me so far. I've got a soft spot for the dutch team, i've always liked them, i remember being a young lad watchin France 98 and thinking they were great. Game will be a difficult one to call though.
