Would you classify 'lees as masochists?

They (usually) have to be restrained because while the 'lee is laughing, the sensation of being tickled isnt exactly a pleasant one, else there would be no reflex to pull away. So in this sense 'lees are the same as "subs" in non-tickling BDSM, just with a different name. They're willingly enduring something that is less than pleasant because on some level they enjoy it despite its being unpleasant. So that does classify 'lees as being masochists IMO. I'm just wondering if most here would agree or disagree, maybe because other bondage roleplay tends to have a darker, more serious feel to it than tickling roleplay. So maybe some here would say that masochist seems too strong of a word when it comes to tickling. Just wondering.

Properly speaking, pain and punishment are different things. A masochist enjoys pain and similar strong physical sensations. Punishment is more a mental state, and is a different but related kink. There are masochists who don't like discipline scenes, and discipline fans who don't actually like pain and work that into the psychology of their play.

Yes, people do mix kinks sometimes. A tickling fan might enjoy it in the context of punishment play, for example, but still might not like pain in any context. And of course masochism and discipline is a fairly common combination.

I do think all lees must have some masochist in them, some love of having things done to them that they can't control. But from what I've seen here, the degree to which that's true can vary widely. Some lees love to be tortured out of their minds and against their will. Other like it to be very gentle and loving and never cross over to that kind of intensity.

Hmm. To the extent that one's kink centers on being out of control, I would call that submission more than masochism. I actually know a few toppy masochists, who like the sensations but prefer to be in control of how they're delivered.

It's difficult to make absolute distinctions in something this complex, but broadly speaking the Dom/sub spectrum is about control, while the sadism/masochism spectrum is about sensation.

In response to the first question, it depends. Can't just put every 'Lee and 'Ler into the same box. Depends on the person, what they get out of it, how they like it, what about it they enjoy, etc.

Owen sums up my thoughts exactly. In my opinion, being a ticklee doesn't make me a masochist. However, I have used the term "sadistic" to describe some of my favorite ticklers.

As a "lee" I'd prefer a soft feather stroking my skin over the snap of a whip any day. For me, the only torture would be who's doing it! Unfortunately, it's hard to control the natural instinct to pull away. You could try to train yourself to hold still, but where's the fun in that? Sometimes I feel like an M, definitely a sub, but I agree being a "lee" comes in all shapes and sizes. I think you definitely have to have the right "ler".
