World Wrestling Entertainment announced this afternoon that former WWF star Cpl. Kirchner (Thomas Spear), passed away of natural causes Sunday in his home in White Marsh, Maryland.

Kirchner had a short run in WWF from 1985 to 1987, replacing Sgt. Slaughter as a patriotic character for the company. He later had a long run in Japan for different companies, including FMW and IWA, working under a mask as Leatherface (and was also billed as Super Leather).

Several years ago, his mother, Genevieve O'Callaghan wrote a fictional book "Corporal Punishment" which was inspired by events in Kirchner's career.

CPL. KIRCHNER NOT DEAD, WWE ANNOUNCEMENT AN ERROR
by Mike Johnson @ 1:15:00 PM on 10/21/2006

Slam Wrestling currently has an interview up with former WWF star Cpl. Kirchner, noting that World Wrestling Entertainment's recent announcement of his demise was premature.

Kirchner, who currently works as a truck driver, said the announcement was a shock to him, telling Slam!, "Even back in the day, I'm thinking, 'Tom Spear, Tom Spear.' I don't recall the name Tom Spear. Them publishing my death is beyond me because I had calls from my family that notified me, asking me about it. I have no idea where this came from. This was a shocker to me. I haven't even been sick lately. It's pretty bizarre seeing your own eulogy sometimes, or hearing about. People called me all day yesterday. 'Are you alright?' I'd say, 'If I wasn't, then how could I answer the phone? What, I'm going to resurrect for you? Yeah, I'm dead but for you, I'll answer the phone.' It's pretty about that. I don't know where the story even came from."

Kirchner noted to Slam! that his mother contacted WWE about the error and they had removed it from their official website, but had not issued a correction.
========================================================

Yeah, that's real fucking nice.....after all the death we've had over the last 3 or 4 years, let's just throw shit up that's not even in the realm of truth, and see if it sticks.....our oops, I guess....

Son of a BITCH!

Don't get me wrong; I'm glad he's not dead, I'm just thouroughly pissed that WWF goes and posts his death, and here there is not minute one of any research to back it up!

"Haven't seen him in a while, must be dead, I guess...."

This is honestly unacceptable on their part.

Bastards.

I'm OK now....

😉

Oh, and I know I haven't been here for a long time, and haven't been seen by anyone but Meems, but rest assured, any rumors of my death are premature.....I'm not dead, either....

🙂

Yeh you would think they would do some sort of resource before claiming someone has died.........anyway I hope he lives a long(er) life.

Kust

Didn't this sort of thing happen to Bob Hope on several different occasions? Seeing your own published obituary has got to be pretty damn freaky...

I'm sorry to announce that I died 3 seconds before I wrote this. May I rest in peace. :wavingguy
