I would go with either Gears of War 2 or Halo 3. From experience Halo 3 is a lot of fun because of the online play (if he's into that.) for me Assassin's Creed was pretty boring. Takes too long to do anything really.
 


IMO skip Assassin's Creed. Look at some review on Amazon before making any purchases. It helps.
