As I've already posted, I bought a new laptop computer yesterday.

I have a Yahoo account. I wanted to download Yahoo Messenger last night, and when I tried to do so, I received a message that said "Downloading this file can seriously harm your computer".

So, my question is: Is it advisable for me to download the Yahoo Messenger, or should I pass? I dont chat on there nearly as often as I used to, and, I of course dont want to corrupt a new computer. Or.. is such a message merely standard, and can I download it with confidence of not worrying about it being corrupted, or giving my computer a virus?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's standard for browsers to warn you about every .exe file that you attempt to download. As long as you're downloading Yahoo messenger from the actual Yahoo! website, you'll be good to go. I don't even know if people would try to make a Yahoo phishing site, as it isn't a financial institution, but I suppose it is possible, since phishers make use of password information obtained any way they can. :shrug: I don't wanna make you more paranoid, though! As I said, double-check your address bar to make sure the host is Yahoo.com, and you'll be alright.
 
Thanks for the advice, Flat. It makes me feel better. I will do what you said, and make sure the download comes from Yahoo.com.

I just downloaded the yahoo im, and all seems fine. Even my address book remained in tact. Thanks again for the help, Flat.
