Found me another supposed cure for pop-ups while surfing today (don't they see the irony of offering you protection from pop-ups IN a freakin' pop-up ad? Anyhow, it's called AdBlock by Linkz.com

Anyody know anything about it? Claims to not have any spyware or tracking software. Anyone?

Sorry...

Can't speak for the folks you mentioned, but I will say that I've been pretty impressed with Earthlink's Pop-Up Blocker. I rarely have any trouble with them, esp. compared to my old days with Netzero.

Easy (well, easy-ish) way to tell if a particular bit of software has any spyware or other tracking gizmos, go grab ad-aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ , grab the latest definition file and let it run before you install any new software. Install your software, run it once, then run Ad-aware again and see if it picks up anything new. Not a foolproof method but better than nothing.

As for pop-up blockers, I've been happily using Mozilla as my web browser for the last year or so and it's got a pretty good blocker app as part of the browser. Plus you don't get quite as many security problems as you do with IE and tabbed browsing is a god send. There are still, sadly, some sites that only work with IE but the majority these days seems to work with pretty much anything. Worth a go if you're really bored of an evening 😀

Dan...

Go to www.panicware.com and download their popup stopper. I've used it for 4 years now and it has never let a pop up through.

OR

Download the free version of the Opera Browser. It has a built in Popup stopper. Opera beats the hell out of any other browser out there.
