Funny since 2 of the last 5 years an NFC West team has made it to the super Bowl.
When a team makes it to the playoffs the win vs. losses are the same. You win the next one or go home. It matter not what you done in the regular season. In 2007, the New England patriots won every game they played except the one that truly count. They lost it to a team that barely made the playoffs.
I hate to quote Herm Edwards but, “That why you play the game!”
Well, let's see...If you are the St.Louis Rams who won only one game a year ago and then go to the playoffs, I don't care what you have to say about the team or the division, the Rams season is a HUGE success. Not their fault the 49ers and Seahawks couldn't get out of their own way.So your in the NFC West and get into the playoffs at 7-9 and may be get a 1 st round loat making you 7-10 for the year, So do you call that a suscessful year since you won the West ???
Hell no!
If a team is that good, to quote the Rock "It doesn't matter" who they play, or what record they have. The Pats didn't make it when they were 11-5? The only blame they have is themselves. If they were 'that good' they would have won their division and left no doubt.
Eat what's on your own plate before you worry about what everyone else is having.
The Pats were undefeated. Did they win the Super Bowl? How many wild card teams have won the Super Bowl?
As someone said, when the playoffs start every team is 0-0. At that point it's take care of business or go home. If you were all that, you would have won your division. No excuses. No tears. Doesn't matter what record any team has.
If your team doesn't make the playoffs they have no one to blame but themselves. Every team was 0-0 when the season started. All you had to do was win your games. Period. Eat what's on your own plate.
That is asinine. If the pats were 11-5 and didn't make the playoffs they have nobody to blame but themselves??? Are you friggin kidding me??? When teams with far worse records made it in that year. Dude, it's because all division winners make the playoffs and football is the only sport that has four divisions, thus giving chances to teams that are FAR less deserving to make it into the playoffs if they win a FAR less competitive division. It's stupid. Hockey and Basketball have it right.
And both teams were underdogs who went on to lose. And they both lost to the same team!
Does no matter, they beat out the rest of the NFC. Steelers did not blow either team out either. And in one of those years the Steelers were themselves just a 500 team.
Bottom line is this: Too many divisions leaves too many opportunties for a team with a bad record to make it because they win a horrible division, vs a team being snubbed with a far better record that comes in 2nd in a far more difficult division.
Proposal: 3 divisions. 2 division winners get byes, the 3rd plays the wild card and there will be 3 wild card teams as opposed to just 2.
Every team creates its own destiny. You have to take advantage of what's given to you.
